JW Marriott and Sheraton are both luxury brands under the Marriott umbrella. JW Marriott Hotels are usually more luxurious than Sheraton hotels. JW Marriott hotels share the top spot with Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, BULGARI, EDITION, and The Luxury Collection.
These brands occupy a 5-star luxury category, with room quality and size, service, restaurants, and the hotel offering an ultra-luxurious setting. Sheraton hotels can be 4—or 5-star and sit slightly below JW Marriott on the luxury brand scale in most locations.
JW Marriott and Sheraton are both part of the Marriott Bonvoy brand loyalty program, so you collect the same points by staying at both of these brands. 2. Style
JW Marriott Venice is probably our favourite JW Marriott and one of the best Marriotts in Europe. This hotel has its own modern style set on its own private island.
While it does not have a club lounge, all the rooms are great. The breakfast is excellent and is served indoors and outdoors, and some of the rooms even have their own garden and plunge pool (pictured above), so this hotel is worth a try.
The only Sheraton in Venice is the Four Points by Sheraton Venice Mestre, which is situated some distance from the center and is not a great hotel, although it is cheap.
If you are looking for a good value hotel in Venice, we would actually rather like the Hilton in Venice, which has superb rooms, a great breakfast, and wonderful views. You will see how fun the rooftop bar and pool are here in our full review of the Hilton Stucky Venice.
We have also reviewed the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, London, which offers an excellent club lounge with a fantastic food offering. However, the rooms and corridors are a little dated.
This Marriott can be compared to the Sheraton London Park Lane, which is better located and has a more boutique feel. Overall, we prefer the Sheraton London Park Lane as it is such a unique property with lovely communal areas. However, it is worth highlighting that the JW Marriott Grosvenor House has a much better food spread in its club lounge, so if you intend to spend a portion of your stay in the club lounge, book the JW Marriott.
Review: Club Lounge at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London
As part of our guide to the best hotel club and executive lounges in London, I am writing a review of the renovated, (in late 2014), and extended executive lounge at the Grosvenor House, a JW Marriott hotel, on Park Lane, right in the center of London. The entrance to the Grosvenor House's lounge is on the ground floor, reached by following some stairs adjacent to the hotel's reception area. Climb the marble staircase and enter through a keyed glass door to reach this spacious lounge.
Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel and the JW Marriott Essex House are not particularly luxurious properties in New York, although both have historic aspects that are interesting, such as the JW Marriotts lifts. If you are looking for an alternative to the Ritz-Carlton hotels in New York, the St. Regis NY is also worth considering as it has a very good breakfast. We prefer the Ritz-Carlton hotels in New York.
Ritz-Carlton New York Nomad Vs. Central Park. Which Is Best?
There are two Ritz-Carlton hotels in New York. The original, older, Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park Vs. Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad. Which Ritz-Carlton in New York is best? We outline the pros and cons of each hotel below. Ritz-Carlton New York Nomad is well located, steps away from Madison Square Park, the Flatiron Building, and a short walk to the Highline.
Australia has a JW Marriott and the Sheraton Grand Mirage on their Gold Coast. The JW Marriott is better here, as the Sheraton feels more dated.
Conversely, in Rio de Janeiro, South America, the Sheraton is better than the JW Marriott. The Sheraton Grand Rio has a resort-style pool, good restaurants, and a great breakfast, although it is not easy to get to or from and requires taxis. The JW Marriott here has the better location by far, but it has a less exciting pool and feels dated. It does have a club lounge, but it doesn’t get very good reviews.
In Los Angeles you may be choosing between the Sheraton Los Angeles Downtown Hotel vs. JW Marriott Hotel Los Angeles at LA Live. Overall, the JW Marriott is the better choice plus you can use the bars and restaurants at the Ritz-Carlton next door.
In Denver, the downtown Sheraton has the better location, but the JW Marriott At Cherry Creek is a more upscale and luxurious hotel as long as you don’t mind its location outside of Downtown.
Best Marriott Bonvoy In Denver, Colorado: Marriott Vs Meridien, Ritz-Carlton Vs Sheraton

3. Location
As a general rule, JW Marriott Hotels and Sheraton Hotels are both centrally located in cities. Both the JW Marriott and Sheraton in New York are located in the concrete jungle, a walk from Central Park, unlike the Ritz-Carlton hotel, which is located on the edge of Central Park.
The Sheraton Park Lane in London is brilliantly located around the corner from the main Four Seasons hotel in London, so this Sheraton is brilliantly located and ultra-luxurious. It is arguably better located than any of the other Marriott hotels in London, even the JW Marriott which is opposite one of London’s wonderful parks. The JW Marriott is much further from Picadilly Circus, Soho, and Regents Street, which is a pain, particularly if you are walking. The JW Marriott is less convenient, making the Sheraton probably the best Marriott choice in London.
Review: Sheraton Grand London Park Lane
Located in the very heart of Mayfair, London, in the south of England, you’ll find a historic gem of a hotel, the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane. I adore the sophistication and charm of this area of London and so was delighted to spend a weekend there recently and enjoy a return to the glamour of the 1920s. The Sheraton Grand London Park Lane really does have everything I look for in a London hotel: that fantastic location, stunning décor (Art Deco is a huge favorite of mine), a club lounge, and impeccable service.
4. Size
JW Marriott and Sheraton hotels vary hugely in size. Some larger JW Marriott and Sheraton hotels are used for conferences. Again, there are exceptions, with some that are almost boutique in size, so it is worth investigating each hotel individually.
5. Rooms
Standard rooms at Sheraton hotels tend to be smaller than JW Marriott hotels. Some Sheraton rooms are particularly good, spacious, and unique, such as those in the Sheraton in London but many are small and generic without much character.
6. Pool & Gym
Whether there is a pool and gym is very property dependent, but as a general rule, JW Marriott hotels tend to have better facilities than Sheraton hotels. The pools at the JW Marriott in Venice are very special.
In Orlando, the JW Marriott has a lazy river, and the Ritz-Carlton has a more classic rectangular pool, and the hotels share facilities. This shared pool area is much nicer than any Sheraton pool in Orlando.
In New York, neither the JW Marriott hotel nor the Sheraton have pools, so this aspect is very property-specific.
7. Ski
The Sheraton and JW Marriott brands have no decent ski hotels, although we have outlined the best Marriott ski hotels which include St. Regis, W, and Westin ski hotels.

8. Club Lounge
Most Sheraton hotels also have club lounges, and if you have top-tier Marriott Bonvoy status, you get access to Sheraton and JW Marriott club lounges for free.
Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador Elite Marriott Bonvoy members can access Executive Club M Club lounges at Marriott properties, including JW Marriott, Marriott, Renaissance, or Sheraton hotels. They can also bring one guest to the lounge as long as the guest is staying in the same room. You will get Platinum Elite status after staying 50 nights a year at a Marriott property. To get Titanium Elite, you need to stay 75 nights each year.
We loved the club lounge at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London and would book this hotel based on its brilliant club lounge. We think this is one of the best Marriott club lounges in the world. The Sheraton Park Lane club lounge is also excellent. In New York, we prefer the Ritz-Carlton Club lounges even though you have to pay for them.
9. Family Facilities
JW Marriott and Sheraton hotels are both great for families, particularly if they are located on a beach. Ritz-Carlton hotels are even better, but the best brand for family-friendly luxury hotels, are the best at Four Seasons as well as some Belmond properties like the Hotel Cipriani.
10. Price
Some JW Marriott hotels are more expensive than Sheraton hotels, some are less expensive, but you tend to get what you pay for with large rooms and a higher level of luxury at the more expensive hotels within each brand.
