Book A Hotel

There are two Ritz-Carlton hotels in New York. The original, older, Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park Vs. Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad. Which Ritz-Carlton in New York is best? We outline the pros and cons of each hotel below.

1. Best Location: Ritz-Carlton New York Nomad Vs. Central Park

Ritz-Carlton New York Nomad is well located, steps away from Madison Square Park, the Flatiron Building, and a short walk to the Highline.

Rising 500 feet above New York’s streets, the hotel sits within the city skyline as one of the tallest buildings in NoMad, which for those of us who aren’t New Yorkers, is the birthplace of American popular music at Tin Pan Alley and today is a nexus of art, entertainment, fashion, and technology.

The original, older, Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park is marginally better located, being on the edge of Central Park on the southern edge. You really can’t get a better location for both leisure walks through central park and also being within walking distance of all the tourist sights like the Empire State Building.

2. Best Style

Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad, feels more modern than the original Ritz-Carlton in New York. The decor in much of the hotel has a jungly feel with dark browns, greens, and lots of foliage. The guestrooms and public spaces all showcase elegant floral expressions, such as natural elements and textures, that reflect the soft curvature of petals alongside sleek accents and lines, which echo New York City’s verticality and city grid.

The original, older Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park, offers classic decor. While the decor is classy, it does not feel as lively and trendy as the decor at Ritz-Carlton New York Nomad.

3. Best Views

This is a difficult one as both hotels have fantastic views. Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad Rises 500 feet above New York’s streets, sitting within the city skyline as one of the tallest buildings in NoMad. The views are epic and the rooms and communal areas are designed to take advantage of them, so I would say the Nomad wins, just.

That said, the original, older Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park offers great views, too and many of the views are over the green foliage of Central Park, which is very calming in a city environment. While the Central Park property is not all about the views, it does have great views, although the Nomad views are slightly better.

4. Best Rooms

The Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad, wins here. The rooms have a mushroom color palette which I’m not crazy about, all feature bespoke furnishings and great views. Many rooms have stand-alone bathtubs next to the window, so you can relax while looking out over the New York skyline. You can see the kind of incredible view you can expect in the photo of a Nomad room above. Watch the setting sun cast a warm glow over the skyline as the city transitions from day to night. The views from the bed, the bath, the room are just fabulous.

5. Best Bar

Nomad wins! Michelin-starred chef José Andrés oversees the hotel‘s rooftop bar, where guests can drink 500 ft (150 m) in the air.

6. Best Pool

Neither Ritz-Carlton in New York has a pool.

7. Best Spa

Both Spa’s at the Ritz-Carlton hotels in New York are excellent. The Spa at Nomad is more modern.

8. Best Club Lounge

Both Ritz-Carlton hotels in New York offer club-level rooms and a club lounge. While the food, drink and service are brilliant in both club lounges, the Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad offers a club lounge with amazing views.

The club lounge at the original, older Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park, is near ground level, and the windows look out towards central park and over the road. As long as you have a head for heights, the lounge at The Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad, has much better views.

The Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad club lounge offers a relaxed environment located on the 36th Floor of the building and offers 180-degree views over Downtown Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

9. Conclusion

Both Ritz-Carlton hotels in New York are excellent. The Ritz-Carlton New York, Nomad has stunning decor and jaw-dropping views. The original Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park, has a marginally better location at the southern end of Central Park.
