Although the hotel itself is stunning, boasting beautiful rooms, a fabulous rooftop pool, another pool surrounded by loungers, multiple bars and restaurants, and expansive grounds (with some rooms even featuring private plunge pools), there’s one drawback. It’s a 15-minute boat ride away from the city center, including waiting and boarding time. This inconvenience can be frustrating if you want to venture out for an evening or enjoy a leisurely drink at a different hotel bar, leaving you somewhat isolated on this picturesque island.
The JW Marriott occupies the exclusive Isola delle Rose, one of the largest and newest islands in the Venetian lagoon, created in 1870 using materials from the construction of the Santa Marta commercial port. Despite the distance from the city center, this lush green island hosts one of the finest Marriott properties I’ve experienced, with some rooms offering private plunge pools. The main building, housing most rooms, the rooftop bar, and the pool, stands at the heart of the island.
Outside, the island beckons exploration, with winding paths leading past olive groves and fields of poppies to outbuildings, including high-end rooms with private pools, a church, herb garden, family pool, the Dopolavro Dining room, and the Gardino Grill, all nestled in a charming garden setting. The expansive spa offers breathtaking views across the water.
The rooftop infinity pool, adjacent to a rooftop bar and restaurant, offers mesmerizing views and plush seating on a beautifully adorned terrace. While the pool’s warmth and ambiance are perfect for relaxation, its shallow depth may disappoint some. For a deeper swim, there’s a secluded outdoor “family” pool hidden amidst the island’s greenery, albeit a bit of a trek in your dressing gown.
Despite its remote location, the resort’s tranquil and serene atmosphere makes it difficult to leave. The hustle and bustle of St. Mark’s Square and tourist activities feel worlds away. However, if you do crave a change of scenery, the hotel’s convenient shuttle boat offers regular and comfortable transfers to St. Mark’s Square.
Review: JW Marriott Venice
I write this review while lazing on the balcony of my Junior suite, dappled in sunlight at the JW Marriott Venice. The outlook is not what you would expect of Venice; all I can hear is bird song, and all I can see is an expanse of green forested gardens with the odd glimpse of Venetian Lagoon through the trees. This impressive luxury Marriott hotel opened in March 2015. Arrive by water taxi if you can. Not only is this a glamorous way to travel through Venice, but the dock at the JW Marriott is like something out of a Bond movie, providing a great first view of the property.

JW Marriott Maldives is one of the best Marriott beach hotels in the world, with some of the region’s most impressive culinary facilities, complete with a treetop restaurant and ultra-private supersize villas.
Situated on the island of Vagary, Shaviyani Atoll, JW Marriott Maldives Resort & Spa features 60 luxurious beach and overwater villas with private pools. Five restaurants, three fully serviced bars, and a chef’s garden are also available, an exceptional offering for a remote private island with only 60 villas.
The resort strongly emphasizes privacy, with private decks and pools designed so they can’t be seen from the outside. Each room draws inspiration from the natural surroundings and local Maldivian culture, incorporating colors and materials that highlight the island destination. JW Marriott Resort & Spa Los Cabos is one of the best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Los Cabos and is a Rewards Category 6 Marriott.
Boasting a brilliant beachfront location in San Jose del Cabo, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean, this resort is the perfect place to soak up the sun in a sophisticated style. The hotel is some distance away from the nearby towns, 4 miles from San Jose & 25 miles from San Lucas, and it is relatively isolated at the eastern end of the 20-mile-long beach zone. The next-door hotel is called Secrets (not a Marriott), but the JW Marriott is much less crowded and a much better hotel overall.
The hotel boasts numerous sparkling pools spread across an expansive area, ensuring they never feel overcrowded. Additionally, guests can enjoy a 27-hole golf course, six distinctive restaurants and bars, many offering captivating ocean views, and the luxurious Jasha Spa & Salon. The adult pool stands out for its impressive length, making it ideal for swimming laps, complemented by two Jacuzzis and two swim-up bars.
However, this may not be the ideal choice if you’re seeking beachfront swimming. While the beach stretches for miles in both directions, rough waters make swimming inadvisable. This is a common feature among most Cabo hotels and may pose concerns for families with children.
The hotel’s meticulously manicured grounds surround it, exuding ultra-stylish elegance. Even the most budget-friendly rooms are exceptional, ensuring a remarkable stay regardless of accommodation choice.
If you pay an extra approx. $200 USD per room per night, you can pay to upgrade to the Griffin Club, which has its own small pool and free drinks and appetizers all day. The free beverages include alcohol, and the appetizers are full meals, so you don’t need to eat out once you have club access. It has 45 exclusive rooms and a “hotel within a hotel” atmosphere.
You can’t get free access to the Griffin Club because you have Gold or Platinum Marriott status. Everyone who gets access to this lounge has to pay for access.

The beach here is white sand with a glorious blue sea—wonderful! There’s an indoor pool and arcade-style game machines for rainy days for the kids.
Be aware of the extra charges at this hotel. Private cabanas cost $250 USD a day, and you can reserve lounge chairs with prime ocean views for $180 USD a day. Ouch! Reports suggest that you are also meant to tip the staff for the free drinks in the club lounge.
The JW Marriott, like The Ritz-Carlton and other big hotels in Cancun, is in the Hotel Zone, around half an hour by car from Cancun Airport (CUN). The JW Marriott is around a kilometer south of The Ritz-Carlton. The foyer is beautiful, with many marble pillars and colossal flower arrangements.
The Club and Club level rooms have been renovated. Club rooms are modern with tiled floors, pine headboards with Mayan patterning, and blue and tan hues bringing the beach inside. Bathrooms are large and stylish, with lovely rough stone tiling on the walls and Aromatherapy amenities.
The lounge looks equally appealing, with the same tan and blue hues and beautiful windows with views over the ocean. This is a nice and stylish place to hang out.

If you have club lounge access, you get free breakfast, free evening snacks, and alcoholic drinks. Throughout the day, you have snacks and soft drinks. If you like a few evening alcoholic drinks, then yes, the lounge is worth paying for, as you get free breakfast, free evening nibbles, and those valuable free drinks. If you only drink soft drinks, this lounge may not be as valuable to you as the hotel is in an area that feels safe, with plenty of local restaurants nearby that offer excellent value for money, so you may prefer to do this.
If you do decide to book into the lounge, expect five decent food events daily and an open bar in the evening with rotating hot dishes as well as cold cuts, cheeses, smoked salmon, veggies, and this kind of thing.
