Book A Hotel

We review the best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Atlanta, Marriott vs. St Regis, Ritz-Carlton vs. Sheraton, and those close to Atlanta Airport ATL. Whether you are traveling as a couple, a family, or as a single business traveler, I conclude which hotel is best to earn and spend your Marriott Bonvoy points.

If you want to stay in luxury in Atlanta, if the budget allows, you should consider staying at one of the best luxury hotels in the city. These include the Ritz-Carlton Atlanta, The Whitley, A Luxury Collection Hotel Atlanta Buckhead, and the St Regis Atlanta, which is also a good choice. These are the best Marriott Bonvoy properties in the city. The Hyatts are also very decent hotels in Atlanta for spend or point redemption stays, and we have reviewed the best Hyatt hotel in Atlanta separately.

1. The Ritz-Carlton Atlanta

The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta is a luxurious base from which to experience the city’s numerous historical attractions and the best in dining, shopping and entertainment.

The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta, offers modern décor, which is complemented by vintage photographs of the area. For food, AG Steakhouse is inspired by the Southern tradition of hospitality, while Jittery Joe’s is an outpost of the renowned Athens, Georgia, coffee shop. Luxury hotel rooms and suites overlook the skyline, and meetings have a local touch, from the names of event spaces to the catering menu options.

Book a Club Room which features free access to the Club Lounge, which is also the best club lounge in Atlanta, for up to 2 guests. This club lounge features continuous culinary presentations throughout the day (breakfast, light snacks, hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and sweets) and sweeping panoramic views from its 24th-floor location.

This Ritz-Carlton is a category 6 Marriott, costing on average 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night if you book your stay by redeeming points.

2. The St. Regis Atlanta

The St. Regis Atlanta is a AAA Five Diamond hotel located in Atlanta’s affluent Buckhead neighborhood. Guest rooms and suites are beautifully finished. Experience the resort-style Pool Piazza and indulge in exquisite dining, including a timeless Afternoon Tea at the Astor Court. This luxury Marriott Bonvoy hotel welcomes guests to delight in exceptional experiences morning, noon, and night.

We particularly like their classy pool pictured above. It is a classy place to hang out in Atlanta.

This is a category 7 Marriott costing on average 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night if you book your stay by redeeming points, making it the most expensive Marriott Bonvoy hotel in Atlanta. The Ritz-Carlton above is cheaper but still offers high-end luxury, so arguably, it offers the better deal when redeeming your points.

3. The Whitley A Luxury Collection Hotel Atlanta Buckhead

The Whitley, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Atlanta Buckhead used to be a Ritz-Carlton hotel and as such, maintains an excellent club lounge.

The Whitley is one of the most celebrated addresses in Atlanta’s most exclusive district, a luxurious starting point from which to access the city’s best shopping, dining, and entertainment.

The Whitley’s spacious bedrooms reflect a modern lifestyle, and the suites offer bay window views of the city skyline. The hotel features an intimate Spa, Spa Lounge with a concierge, and Spa Boutique. In September 2017, the hotel opened its new bar and restaurant, sourcing the finest ingredients to delight you with an extraordinary, global dining experience.

Kids are particularly well catered for here, and The Whitley offers a super scavenger hunt with a prize at their own check-in desk, as well as “drive-in” movies on the weekends.

The rooms at The Whitley are more luxury Marriott in terms of “level of luxury” than a Ritz-Carlton level, which is probably why Marriott changed the brand of this hotel from Ritz-Carlton.

That said, it is a category 5 Marriott costing on average 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night if you book your stay by redeeming points, making it significantly cheaper on redemption than options 1 and 2 in our best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Atlanta listing.

4. W Atlanta Buckhead

Across the street from the JW Marriott below, this luxury Marriott Bonvoy hotel, W Buckead is a category 5 Marriott costing on average 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night if you book your stay by redeeming points. This makes it a significantly cheaper hotel on redemption than options 1 and 2 in our best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Atlanta listing, and the same price as the Whitley A Luxury Collection Hotel Atlanta Buckhead.

This newly transformed hotel is close to both ATL Airport and MARTA and offers stylish rooms and amenities and an inimitable boutique luxury lifestyle experience. Meet and mingle in Studio 11-designed Living Room and vibrant social spaces, including our chic, newly updated rooftop pool and bar, Whiskey Blue.

Retreat to reimagined guestrooms with a pop of vibrancy, artful design, city views, and modern amenities. Delight your senses in our signature restaurant, Cook Hall. Enjoy our custom murals throughout the hotel by top visual artists from Atlanta. Prioritize your well-being in FIT® or relax on our WET® deck, with the only infinity-edge pool overlooking Buckhead, GA.

There are also two other W hotels in Atlanta, Downtown and Midtown. Which is best? W Atlanta Buckhead vs. Downtown vs. Midtown? The Downtown pool area overlooks the World of Coke and the downtown area, which is very quiet and a bit dead.

This is the worst of the three W Hotels, with the Midtown and Buckhead hotels being much livelier and more fun. Midtown has nicer rooms and is in a better neighborhood, and the Buckhead location has fabulous parties by the rooftop infinity pool.

5. W Atlanta Midtown

W Atlanta Midtown is minutes from everything you want to experience in the city. Piedmont Park is two blocks away; Ponce City Market is close by, as are Georgia Tech and the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Again, this hotel is a category 5 Marriott, costing on average 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night, and this hotel has great rooms and is in a nice neighborhood.

6. JW Marriott Buckhead

The JW Marriott Buckhead is an upscale high-rise hotel that is attached to the Lenox Mall. JW is much nicer and more high-end vs. the Marriott Buckhead Hotel & Convention Center listed below, which is in almost the same location.

The concierge lounge offerings and services are better at the JW Marriott. This club lounge is open throughout the week but only for breakfast at the weekends.

However, the mediocre cookie-cutter rooms at this JW Marriott are dated and expensive for their generic look and quality. The windows don’t open, and the amenities aren’t great. The newer W Hotel is just across the street and is a much better choice. The W is one of the best hotels in town and gives the JW a run for the money.

JW Marriott Buckhead is a category 5 Marriott costing on average 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night if you book your stay by redeeming points, also making it significantly cheaper on redemption than options 1 and 2 in our best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Atlanta listing and the same price as the Whitley A Luxury Collection Hotel Atlanta Buckhead. The main differentiator is the location, which should help choose between the JW Marriott Buckhead and The Whitley. The W Atlanta is a much better choice if you are paying on points.

It’s worth noting there is also a Sheraton in Buckhead, but it is not as good as the W or the JW Marriott, so it has not been included in this listing.

7. The Westin Buckhead Atlanta

The Westin Buckhead Atlanta is located in the heart of the affluent Buckhead community, across the street from popular Lenox Mall and Phipps Plaza, and in the heart of Atlanta’s premier dining and shopping district. It is just down the street from the Grand Hyatt and is an excellent choice for a hotel with a club lounge.

For families, this hotel has an indoor heated pool open all year round. 365 rooms start with the traditional base room, which offers a choice of one king bed or two doubles, accommodating a maximum of four guests. The decor is in earthy tones, and all rooms boast the Westin’s Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Shower with strong pressure.

The Westin Buckhead Atlanta is a category 5 Marriott costing on average 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night if you book your stay by redeeming points, also making it significantly cheaper on redemption than options 1 and 2 in our best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Atlanta.

8. Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

There are two Sheratons in Atlanta. One at the airport and one in the center, Downtown. Sheraton Atlanta Hotel is the one in downtown and is located only minutes from the Fox Theater Atlanta, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta Aquarium, Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, State Farm Arena Atlanta, and Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The highlight of this hotel is the incredible Garden Courtyard Pool with a retractable glass dome (there is also a Sheraton Fitness Center). Rooms here are decent, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city skyline or pool.

Sheraton Atlanta Hotel is a category 5 Marriott costing on average 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night if you book your stay by redeeming points, also making it significantly cheaper on redemption than options 1 and 2 in our best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Atlanta listing and the same price as the Whitley A Luxury Collection Hotel Atlanta Buckhead and the JW Marriott Buckhead.

9. Marriott Buckhead Hotel & Conference Center

Other Marriott hotels within Atlanta include the Marriott Buckhead Hotel & Convention Center which is a standard old concrete mid-rise property across the street and a large parking lot from the same Lenox Mall, the location of the JW Marriott above. It was formerly a Sheraton, so the rooms are small with poor sound insulation. The Marriott Buckhead Hotel & Convention Center club lounge is closed on weekends when you get a full buffet breakfast at the hotel restaurant.

The Marriott Buckhead Hotel & Convention Center is a category 5 Marriott, costing on average 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night if you book your stay by redeeming points, also making it significantly cheaper on redemption than options 1 and 2 in our best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Atlanta listing and the same price as the Whitley A Luxury Collection Hotel Atlanta Buckhead and the JW Marriott Buckhead.

10. Marriott Marquis Atlanta

Marriott Marquis Atlanta is an iconic 52-story atrium hotel in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, steps from attractions and close to Marta and the Aquarium, Olympic Park, Hard Rock Cafe, New World of Coke, CNN/studio tour. It is a big hotel with all the facilities you need, but it is not your best Marriott Bonvoy hotel in Atlanta.

The Marriott Marquis Atlanta is a category 5 Marriott costing on average 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy per night if you book your stay by redeeming points, also making it significantly cheaper on redemption than options 1 and 2 in our best Marriott Bonvoy hotels in Atlanta listing and the same price as the Whitley A Luxury Collection Hotel Atlanta Buckhead and the JW Marriott Buckhead.
