Book A Stay

Playa del Carmen, located on the Yucatán Peninsula’s Riviera Maya strip of Caribbean shoreline, is famed for its beautiful white sandy beaches, tropical palm trees, and year-round sun.

Location

The luxury Grand Hyatt, which was co-designed by the Mexican architect Sordo Madaleno and New-York based Rockwell Group, is located in the heart of Playa, a few steps from La Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) with its luxury shops and directly on the beachfront.

Style & Character

The hotel has just over 300 rooms, all with floor-to-ceiling windows so you can gaze out on the turquoise waters from the comfort of your bed. The hotel’s highlight is the swimming pool and spa, inspired by the Cenotes, a geological formation typical of the Yucatan Peninsula that creates natural swimming basins. The resort is memorable, from the unique layout of the rooms around the open-air Paseo and pool to the Mexican flair imparted by using local natural materials and artwork.

Rooms

Guest rooms at the Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen are apartment-style and have stunning views of the Mexican Caribbean Sea or a mangrove forest. Standard rooms are spacious at over 400 ft² and offer a private balcony and bathroom with a rain shower, and twin sinks. However, our choice would be the Plunge Pool Suite with a private heated plunge pool on the balcony with a sea view.

Service & Facilities

The staff here are described as attentive, particularly in the club lounge. Reports also suggest they go the extra mile if you are celebrating a special occasion.

This is not your typical hotel spa. Rather it is truly a Mexican spa inspired by Cenotes, considered energy centers where the waters heal bathers with high concentrations of minerals. Gorgeous decor, Japanese-style onsen, cocooning bathing areas, and a wide range of treatments guarantee relaxation. The fitness center is well-equipped with Technogym equipment for those wanting a little exertion.

The hotel has a number of infinity pools overlooking the beach and a 25m lap pool for those who wish to swim rather than relax.

The Grand Hyatt Playa del Carmen provides an excellent new luxury option on the Mexican Riviera. Stylish rooms, a great spa, beautiful pools, and a white sandy beach are enough excuses for me to search for flights to Cancun, and there’s even great shopping nearby!

Food & Drink

With a choice of two restaurants and three bars, there is bound to be something to suit. Our choice is The Grill at 1-26, offering the freshest seafood cooked over a charcoal grill, where you can dine with ocean views. La Cocina is an all-day dining restaurant with tastes from the Caribbean. Alternatively, El Paseo provides fresh Mexican food or delicious coffee if you fancy a drink. For a quick snack, choose from the taco stall or ceviche bar.
