JW Marriott Cannes is perfectly located in the heart of Le Croisette, the prominent waterfront promenade in Cannes renowned for its glamour, luxury, and stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. The promenade stretches approximately 2 kilometers along the bay and is lined with palm trees, prestigious hotels, upscale boutiques, and chic cafes.
Location
Cannes is a renowned city located on the French Riviera, a glamorous stretch along the southeastern coast of France. It is part of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, nestled in the Alpes-Maritimes department. Geographically, Cannes boasts a picturesque setting bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the south, providing it with a mild, Mediterranean climate characterized by warm summers and mild winters.
The city is situated approximately 24 kilometers (about 15 miles) southwest of Nice, making it easily accessible from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, which is the nearest major airport serving international and domestic flights. We took a taxi from Nice airport to Cannes, and it cost €100 EUR for a 45 minute ride. This hotel is right on the beachfront, so it is the best Marriott hotel choice in Cannes.
Style & Character
JW Marriott Cannes’s design has a hint of Vegas. If you like modernity, this place will wow you. You enter through shiny silver-rimmed glass doors, cross a large expanse of shiny marble, and reach escalators at the end. The escalators whisk you up to a massive internal foyer.
The foyer looks like a smaller version of the Luxor in Vegas. It must be four storeys in height, and balconies leading to the hotel’s rooms tower over the reception desk, which is slid in on one side of this internal atrium.
There is seating in the center of this vast room, and a gargantuan and spectacular silver chandelier or perhaps a mass of chandeliers drapes down from the ceiling in the center.
The floor and walls seem to be mainly white marble and gold. There are also balcony railings to the far side of the foyer, which gaze down at the main hotel restaurant below. This helps you get your bearings on which side of this building looks towards the sea.
This room is undoubtedly impressive and feels a little like the center of a futuristic spaceship, particularly as there doesn’t seem to be any natural light.
Service & Facilities
It is probably the beach and the promenade that you enjoy in Cannes, but this hotel also has numerous internal and external restaurants and a rooftop pool.
Rooms
Rooms here are bright with huge windows, a modern design, and swirly blue ocean-like carpets. Many have great balconies and terraces. The bathrooms have been recently refurbished and are worth enjoying.
Food & Drink
Savor a glass of champagne on the stunning Sunset Terrace or experience a sumptuous dinner in Scalini Restaurant; both are worth a try.
There is no Executive Club Lounge at this JW Marriott in Cannes. Instead, you can take breakfast in The Grill Restaurant with sea views, and a decent spread. You get free breakfast for two along with other free benefits if you book a stay here via our luxury travel concierge.
Conclusion
When we reviewed this hotel, we were staying at the Carlton Cannes, which is just a few buildings up the Croisette from the JW Marriott. The contrast between the decor of these hotels was stark.
Carlton Cannes is the epitome of luxury and taste with Belle Epoche charm. I loved it. JW Marriott is like a space ship full of marble that has crash-landed on Cannes seafront. While the rooms are undoubtedly great at the JW Marriott, I found the design rather jarring and slightly out place on this historic and stylish seafront.
That said, it is undoubtedly luxurious, and if I needed to find a hotel to burn some Marriott points, this hotel certainly has the location and views.
