Book A Stay

Ca Di Dio, a member of Small Luxury Hotels, is a luxury boutique hotel bordering the Venice lagoon.

Location

Ca’ di Dio can be found a five-minute walk from St. Mark’s Square and just a few hundred meters further up the promenade from the prestigious new Four Seasons in Venice. It is also located at the entrance to the Arsenale district, where the famous Art Biennale is held.

When you stay here, you’re perfectly positioned right on the waterfront to watch the comings and goings of the boats. Water busses, taxis, and ferry tours depart throughout the day from the cobblestone pavement directly in front of the hotel, and you’re perfectly placed to watch all of this going on.

Throngs of tourists amble past the doors of this luxury bolt-hole without having any idea what luxuries await inside, and usefully, there are numerous local restaurants just steps from the hotel’s front doors.

If you take a water taxi from the airport to the hotel, the hotel has its own private arrival pontoon up a waterway hugging one side of the building (pictured above).

Style & Character

Ca Di Dio is a wonderful mix of history and modernity. The structure of the building is deeply historic, with parts dating back to 1272.

The foyer, for example, has gracious doorways and historic detailing on the walls that make it feel medieval. This entranceway is decked out with deliciously luxurious sofas, deep pile rugs, as well as an impressive chandelier, perfectly adding modern luxury to this ancient setting.

Service & Facilities

What makes Ca’ di Dio so special is the garden in the central courtyard that offers the perfect place to read a book. This is also where you can enjoy breakfast and an evening meal should you wish. The green grass, bushes, and palm trees offer an escape from the urban and frenetic center of Venice.

Rooms

To get to the bedrooms, you travel through corridors that offer gorgeous views out over the lagoon at one end. Bedrooms and suites showcase Italian design, with lime green and mustard Murano glass lamps dangling to the side of each bed, locally made fabrics, and marble-clad bathrooms.

Some rooms overlook mimosa and magnolia trees in the hotel’s two courtyards. Ours, a Junior suite, looked out over the lagoon. I could have spent hours watching the tourists pass by and the ferries coming and going.

The view is even more romantic at night when the streets empty out, and the pretty street lamps come on and light up the nearby bridges and sparkle off the water. If you book the Altana Suite, you get a 360-degree iconic view of San Giorgio and the lagoon from your private terrace.

Food & Drink

The charming outdoor VERO Restaurant spills out onto the cobblestones in front of the hotel with its back to the stone building housing the hotel. It gazes over the Venice lagoon and offers dishes inspired by it.

The internal courtyard offers a delightful place to escape the heat and crowds of Venice. Essentia Restaurant and Alchemia Bar offer an excellent option for al fresco dining or to enjoy cocktails. This is also where you can enjoy the hotel breakfast, a generous spread of fruit, cold cuts, yogurt, juices, bread and cake, and eggs made to order. The hotel breakfast is included in your rate along with hotel credit and room upgrade (subject to availability) if you book via our luxury travel concierge and you can also enjoy complimentary hot drinks here in the morning.
