Book A Stay

There are no Ritz-Carlton hotels in Italy yet, but Ritz-Carlton on Lake Como is set to launch in 2026. There are plenty of Ritz-Carlton hotels in Europe that are available for booking, but there is currently no Ritz-Carlton in Italy.

Through a significant conversion of the former Hotel Grande Bretagne in Bellagio, the brand will bring its legendary service and elegant aesthetic to Lake Como, one of Italy’s most coveted destinations.

In the meantime, if you want to stay on Lake Como, you could stay at the Sheraton Lake Como if you want to stick within the Marriott brand. You could also try the Hilton Lake Como, which is a lovely hotel at a fair price, or if you want to fly home with the ultimate Instagramable shots, Hotel Tremezzo has an incredible setting. You can read our review of Grand Hotel Tremezzo to see just how picturesque this hotel is.

Location

The Ritz-Carlton Como, Italy, will be located near the village of Bellagio, between the two arms of Lake Como and just a 15-minute walk from the area’s main sights, namely Punta Spartivento, Villa Melzi, and the gardens of Parco Villa Serbelloni.

Lake Como is Italy’s third-largest lake and one of the deepest in Europe. It is one of the country’s most iconic natural gems. Known for its crystal clear waters, majestic mountains surrounding, and charming coastal towns, Lake Como is located in the Lombardy region.

It is also known for the many historic villas and palaces built along its shores, commissioned by wealthy Italian aristocrats over the centuries. These buildings, which often include beautiful Italian gardens and stunning lake views, have been the backdrop for several blockbuster films, including Casino Royale and Oceans Twelve.

Style & Character

The Ritz-Carlton Lake Como is set to become one of the best Ritz-Carlton hotels in the world.

Situated just outside the charming village of Bellagio, which sits on a peninsula of land between the two arms of Lake Como, the historic Belle Époque Hotel Grande Bretagne was one of the destination’s very first and most distinguished luxury hotels when it opened in 1850.

The property fell into disuse at the end of the last century and has since been acquired by the Galbusera family with a clear vision and passion for restoring the prestigious reputation of the former grand hotel through an extensive restoration and expansion project.

Spread over a 16,500 m² estate, the regeneration scheme will be the most notable hospitality development project in the Lake Como area in recent years. It will involve a complete conservative restoration and reimagining of the property with the utmost respect for the historical significance of the building.

Rooms

Expected to open in 2026, the spectacular waterfront property is slated to offer 59 rooms and 46 suites (including two Ritz-Carlton suites) with views over the lake.

Service & Facilities

This Ritz-Carlton will have a spa with an indoor pool, state-of-the-art restaurants, meeting and event facilities, a meditation garden, a walking trail, a large outdoor pool, and a private pier.

Conclusion

The Ritz-Carlton in Bellagio will mark one of the region’s most significant luxury hospitality projects and the brand’s debut in Italy. We can’t wait for its opening.
