6. Four Seasons Resort Langkawi

This is the kind of place where you forget what day it is. The key to Four Seasons Resort Langkawi is partly in the numbers. 48 acres and 91 rooms. A heck of a lot of beaches and very few people.

Malaysian people are the secret ingredient. They love life (and especially food) and take the responsibility of hospitality very seriously. They smile, a lot. The staff at Four Seasons Langkawi are simply amazing when it comes to remembering how you like your coffee, your favorite wine, where you like to sit.

Festive celebrations are great here with a late breakfast and a meet-and-greet with Santa Claus and his elves on the beach, followed by an evening spent exploring the festive night market featuring famous “streets” from across Asia.

Four Seasons Langkawi is one of the cheapest Four Seasons and is a brilliant choice if you would like a great Four Seasons beach resort.

7. Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel

Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel is our favourite early or late season Four Seasons hotel for winter sunshine. Stay here in October, November, March or April and this is one of the best value out of season Four Seasons hotels.

In fact, with prices close to one fifth of the summer price and if you don’t mind gambling with the weather, can you catch some rays at their Club Dauphine beach club (pictured above) for a fraction of the summer rates.

And Four Seasons hotels simply don’t get moe luxurious than this one. The staff are second to none, attentive, friendly, classy. The setting is simply stunning with the vast windows of this historic property staring out to sea, the gardens are wonderful.

If you are lucky with the weather and manage to enjoy breakfast and an evening drink on the hotel’s terrace you could be mistaken that you’ve gone to heaven. It’s that good.

Our only Caveat with this hotel is that you can get inundated with storms at the very start and end of the season so the weather can be a gamble.

The entire resort is open air, the foyer, the restaurants, the bar are all open to the gardens. A gentle breeze constantly wafts through this entrance and you can gaze across the right down to the sea from the main communal areas of this hotel.

The beach sits at the end of the gardens, beyond the pool, and couldn’t be more perfect with golden sands. It’s the perfect antidote to the winter.

10. Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens

Consider kicking off a year’s worth of exciting new opportunities with a cozy winter beachside getaway at Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens.

At this time of year, you can enjoy ancient attractions without the wait. There’s no need to be a history or archaeology buff to appreciate the ancient engineering feat that is the fifth-century BCE Parthenon.

In winter, queues to scale the steps up to the Acropolis magically disappear. Marvel the painstakingly-preserved temples, gates, and fortifications of this monumental complex. Take a moment to absorb the soothing, panoramic views of the sprawling city from on high.

Stroll through the sixth-century BCE Ancient Agora, Stoa of Attalos, and Roman Agora and look up at the soaring columns standing tall at the Temple of Olympian Zeus. At the marble-built Panathenaic Stadium, picture athletes competing in the first modern Olympics held in 1896. Today, runners from around the world participating in the annual Athens Marathon in November experience the thrill of crossing the finish line and entering the stadium.

Saunter through Athens’ bevy of brilliant museums without the summer crowds. With a full calendar of permanent and host exhibitions, there is plenty of time to pore over a wealth of creative genius, both ancient and modern, in peace.

Or just get out a book and sun yourself on the hotel’s private beach.
