This article outlines the luxury hotels in Tokyo that offer guests Club or Executive Lounges. By reviewing each of these club lounges, I conclude which hotel club lounge comes in at the top and which hotels I would select as having the best club lounges in Tokyo.
When deciding which hotel to choose for your stay in a city like Tokyo, it is sensible to consider the added extras provided by a hotel, Club Lounge or Club Room. Offerings usually include complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the day, breakfast in the morning, and evening cocktails with canapés. Often the evening food and drink offering is more than enough to replace the need to go out for the evening.
Executive or Club hotel lounges also provide an interesting environment to work and relax. Some lounges also provide dedicated meeting rooms, although meetings in the main lounge are more friendly. When I travel for business, I’m not particularly eager to sit in restaurants on my own. Room service is also a lonely affair, so a Club Lounge provides the ideal environment to enjoy good food and atmosphere while completely comfortably sitting at a table for one.
Tokyo is a particularly expensive city, so Club Lounges offer a nice rest bite from the sky-high prices charged in this amazing city. We’ve compiled a list below containing the Club Lounges available across luxury hotels in Tokyo. I list the ones I consider to be the best at the top. My favorite is probably the ANA Intercontinental Tokyo Executive Club Lounge which I have reviewed in great detail. The Horizon Club, Shangri La, Tokyo, and the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo Club Lounge are at the top of my list. When the Langham Tokyo opened in 2019, I also expect this lounge to be one of those battling for the top spot.
I have outlined the hotels with the best Club or Executive lounges below:
1. ANA Intercontinental Tokyo, Club Intercontinental Club Lounge
The Intercontinental Tokyo, Club Intercontinental is located on the 35th floor of the hotel, offering hugely impressive views, a sophisticated ambiance, and this lounge is the largest hotel lounge in the city. The lounge was upgraded in 2016, so it is modern and stylish.
There are plenty of workstations and seating areas, but the highlight is the views. The lounge wraps around the floor in an “L” shape, providing loads of great views of the Tokyo skyline and various other major landmarks, such as the Imperial Palace, the Japanese Parliament building, and even Mount Fuji, on a clear day!
The food quality is consistently superb and flavourful. From 5:30 – 7:30 pm, the lounge features a large spread of appetizers, finger food, and dessert. There is also a rotating list of 3 Japanese and Western hot canapes, which you can order off the menu. One of the highlights of the evening service was the welcoming open bar with a good selection of liquor, beer, wine, Japanese sake, shochu, and regular and rose champagne. Manning the bar is a knowledgeable bartender who whipped up great cocktails upon demand.
In the morning, breakfast service runs from 7:00 – 11:00 am and features a decent spread of freshly baked bread and pastries, Japanese and western canapes, cold cuts, cereal, and nuts. Surprisingly, the spread is actually to complement the superb breakfast a la carte table service menu. Traditional Japanese breakfast options include Japanese egg omelet, grilled salmon, and steamed ‘Koshihikari’ rice from Toyama to go along with miso soup with tofu and wakame seaweed.
The highlight of the breakfast service, however, is the recently introduced Pierre Gagnaire breakfast. As the hotel hosts the eponymous 2 Michelin star restaurant of the world-renowned chef, the club lounge decided to up their game. It introduced a breakfast designed by Pierre Gagnaire after the chef visited his restaurant and the hotel in later October 2017. In doing so, the ANA InterContinental Tokyo became the first InterContinental hotel in the world to offer a 2 Michelin star breakfast at their lounge.
On top of breakfast and evening cocktails, the Club lounge also serves a full-scale high tea from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, featuring a delectable selection of high tea staples such as cakes, scones, tarts, macaroons, and sandwiches, as well as seasonal fruits, Japanese sweets, and rice cakes. Of course, high tea would not be complete with the actual tea, and in this aspect, the hotel offers a quality selection of Ronnefeldt tea served by the pot. Overall, This is definitely one of the best hotel lounges in Tokyo.
2. Ritz-Carlton Tokyo Club Lounge
The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo also offers a club lounge. This one is situated on the 55th floor. Access to this Club Lounge (which comes free with Club Rooms) gives you breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails, and snacks all served impeccably and of excellent quality. The hotel claims that there are five food and beverage presentations daily, so there are nibbles in-between too.
The Club Lounge at The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo, features four distinctly unique spaces; reception, garden terrace, dining room, and library lounge. Situated on the top floor overlooking the stunning view of Mount Fuji (shown in the picture above!), each area is designed with a different atmosphere for the morning, day, and evening. For something really special, the Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge offers a Harp & Afternoon Tea on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, which is a special afternoon tea service from 3:00 – 4:30 pm.
3. Horizon Club, Shangri La, Tokyo
This is a cracker of a lounge. Located on the 37th floor and reserved exclusively for Horizon Club or Shangri-La suite guests, the elegant Horizon Club is designed as a home-away-from-home for busy globetrotters. Decorated in a contemporary international style and imbued with rich, warm textures and a collection of covetable art, this cozy urban haven also offers some of the best panoramic views over the city. Thoughtfully arranged intimate seating areas and custom-made plush armchairs, together with a separate complimentary boardroom that is ideal for private meetings and events. Enjoy all-day culinary treats, including a buffet-style brunch, a chic Afternoon Tea, and evening canapés. You’ll see why the Horizon Club is a destination worth visiting.
Bottom line; This lounge has a sensational view, unlimited champagne, and generous, flavorsome nibbles in the evening, which are enough to substitute for your evening meal.
4. Langham Tokyo
Langham Hotels are opening the Langham Tokyo in 2019, a year before Tokyo hosts the 2020 Olympics. Located in Tokyo’s liveliest entertainment area, Roppongi district, the Langham Tokyo, Japan, will cost approximately ¥50 billion JPY ($420 million USD). Langham Hotels offer some of the best Club Lounges in the world. Our favourite is the Club Lounge at the Langham London which is one of the best club lounges in London. Although Langham Tokyo is not yet open, I would expect its lounge to rise to the top of our list of the best Club Lounges in Tokyo based on the high quality of the other Langham Club Lounges worldwide.
5. Tokyo Marriott Hotel, Shinagawa
The Tokyo Marriott Hotel, Shinagawa, is conveniently located within a 10-minute walk from Shinagawa station (or a 5-minute shuttle bus ride). This is not the most pretty or interesting area of Tokyo, and this hotel’s 4-star status means that this lounge comes near the bottom of our list, even though it gets rave reviews and probably offers the most bang for your buck.
Marriott Platinum members often get upgraded to Club rooms at this hotel, and Gold members automatically get Club Lounge access at this hotel. The Club lounge is excellent and located next to the reception. It has no windows, but it features an extensive full buffet breakfast, which is served in the hotel’s restaurant (superb selection!), all-day nibbles, including cakes and pastries, and an amazing dinner presentation, which includes over half a dozen hot dishes, sweets, soft drinks, good quality alcohol and huge cakes and pastries as well as a full bar with lots of alcoholic choices in the evening.
6. The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, A Luxury Collection Hotel
The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, A Luxury Collection Hotel has one of the best club lounges in Tokyo.
The club lounge can be found really high up in this hotel, so it offers incredible views. It sits happily on the 34th floor of the hotel.
The decor in the lounge consists of lots of grey bucket sofa seats on a wild mustard carpet. The windows are floor-to-ceiling, and the views are jaw-dropping. There are little booths for a more private place to sit and grab a bite, and there is a black marble buffet area at one end. Snacks, cheeses, cold cuts, fish, and cakes are all available in the evening, and drinks are served seven to half past nine.
This is a great lounge with great views and enough dinner to fill you up.
7. Hyatt Regency, Tokyo
The Hyatt Regency, Tokyo, has Club rooms with access to the Regency Club. The lounge is extremely large and, dare I say it, a little corporate and impersonal because of its size and multiple rooms and seating areas. It has a really nice breakfast in the morning and appetizers and cocktails in the evening. The service is extremely attentive and helpful.
8. Hilton Tokyo
The Hilton Tokyo is not particularly noteworthy. Still, if you book a club or executive level room, you get access to the executive lounge with complimentary hot buffet breakfast, afternoon tea, hors-d’oeuvres, and dessert, along with alcoholic evening drinks and cocktails. The staff here are extremely friendly and helpful, and the lounge is great if small. It is important to get there early so you can get a seat.
