Book A Hotel

In this trip report, I review what is on offer if you fly Delta A350 Premium Select, which is Delta’s Premium Economy in the new A350. Delta Air Lines has now launched its A350, and the new premium economy product on its A350 aircraft is expected to come into circulation on the Detroit – Tokyo Narita route on October 30 (although this does not yet show up on the system). We have already reviewed Delta Premium Economy.

Highlights include:

  • Seats which feature 38 inches of pitch, 19 inches of width and 7 inches of recline
  • Adjustable leg and head rests
  • 13.3-inch in-flight entertainment screen
  • In-seat power points
  • Pre-departure drinks service and new menu selections in flight
  • A Westin Heavenly blanket and a TUMI amenity kit, featuring Malin+Goetz products
  • Sky Priority service which includes faster check-in and security, priority boarding and priority baggage service

The A350 will feature 38 Delta Premium seats with a 2-4-2 configuration, 32 Delta One suites, and 226 Main Cabin seats. The carrier will also launch the Delta Premium cabin on its 777 fleet in 2018.

The quality of the Delta Premium Select is expected to be similar to that offered on Air France and Virgin Atlantic, in which Delta holds a 49 percent stake. Both airlines have offered a dedicated international premium economy for years. I have flown on Virgin Premium Economy, and little touches which you get over the main coach cabin include your luggage being tagged as Premium Economy, priority boarding before Economy, a complimentary welcome glass of bubbly and larger seats which do not fully recline but do lean back quite a bit further than coach. Other advantages include around 3 meal choices and real metal rather than plastic cutlery along with an after-dinner liqueur. On Virgin, you also share an upgraded bathroom experience with their Upper Class passengers.

OK, Premium Select is not going to be as good as Delta’s new Delta One Business Suites, which we’ve also reviewed but for a reasonable price, you will certainly feel upgraded and enjoy a more comfortable flight.
