Delta Air Lines will launch an international premium economy product on its Airbus A350s in 2017.
Why is premium economy so important to Delta Air Lines? Put simply, online sources suggest that five percent of Delta Air Lines passengers are responsible for a quarter of the airline’s revenue. The airline has therefore focused it’s energies in making their Business Class product even better, as these are the customers that give them their profits. The increasingly luxurious front end of the cabin experience has meant that Delta has created a greater divide between business and the main cabin and has left a vacuum in the middle.
The solution will arrive with Delta Premium on their Airbus A350. When the new twin-engine widebody begins international service in 2017, it will feature a separate premium economy class, an entirely new cabin class, with enhanced in-flight standards over coach.
What do you get on Delta Airlines Premium Economy Service? If you book premium economy you will enjoy seats offering 38 inches of pitch, leg rests, and a dedicated premium economy service, which is likely to be borrowed from SkyTeam partner Air France and Virgin Atlantic in which Delta holds a 49 percent stake. Both airlines have offered a dedicated international premium economy for years.
For example Virgin Premium Economy offers a welcome glass of bubbly and after dinner liqueur, a proper workspace with in seat laptop power and a delicious meal (choose between three main meal options), upgraded with china crockery, cutlery and linen. I would expect something similar from Delta Airlines, much like the Club Europe experience on British Airways.
Last year, American Airlines became the first of the “Big Three” US carriers to launch an AA premium economy service and will launch the product later this year.
The new Delta Air Lines premium economy cabin class will soon be rolled out onto the carrier’s international B777 fleet, as well as its A330-200s and B767-400s.
