Book A Hotel

If you fly on British Airways in Club Europe (European Business Class) between 2:00 – 5:00 pm you may be expecting a rather nice salad or perhaps even some kind of warm meal. Alas no. The British Airways famous afternoon tea will be on offer, and as you can see from the above picture, it is not as luxury or “Business Class” as you would hope.

One key advantage of British Airways Club Europe over Economy, beyond the added space with the blocked middle seat and the complimentary meal, is the generous luggage allowance. You’re entitled to two pieces of checked luggage at no extra cost, and there’s ample space for your cabin roll-on bag. Club Class passengers also enjoy priority boarding, ensuring plenty of room in the overhead lockers, so you’ll never need to worry about finding space for your carry-on.

Another great perk is pre-flight access to the Club lounges, especially if departing from a UK airport, where you can relax in the BA Galleries Club Lounges before your flight.

Club Europe afternoon tea

On my flight on British Airways Club Europe, I was offered a cup or two of very tasty tea along with any other drinks I wanted, including alcohol (no complaints yet), and then the meal.

I was given three tiny crustless sandwiches (pictured above). One with beef in, one with chicken and beetroot, and one with cheese and pickle. The problem for me is not the content. It is the quality.

These sandwiches were meager and dry. The chicken is not pieces of chicken but slices of processed chicken; the same goes for the beef, and the cheese is not exciting. If, like my husband, you aren’t a fan of pickle or beetroot or thinly sliced beef, you are left rather hungry. Of course, there is also a scone, which was again on the dry side, with cream and jam, but I would expect better for the upgraded price of a Club Europe.

The British Airways vegetarian afternoon tea is equally insipid. The last time I tried it, I was given a pleasant tiny egg roll, cucumber sandwiches on dry bread, and a quiche-type pastry. This all came with a scone and cake and was all perfectly pleasant but not that nice and not that healthy with masses of bread rather than a salad and protein option.

We’ve discussed whether Club Europe is worth spending your Avios on for the Heathrow lounges and Fast Tracked security, separately.
