What’s your favorite part of the luxury travel experience? Fluffy bathrobes hanging invitingly next to a large walk-in shower? A fully lie-flat seat in Business Class? Complimentary Champagne? Well, put me down for all of those, but ground transport is increasingly important to me and has been the source of a few headaches.
Having been left stranded at Ha Noi airport on a Sunday evening when I had to get to Ha Long to join my cruise, I know all about the importance of reliable, convenient, and affordable executive transfer services. My new favorite sight is the driver in a sober suit waiting for me in arrivals or outside my hotel lobby, rolling my cases towards the limo. That’s why I now use Blacklane Airport Transfers whenever possible.
Founded in Berlin in 2011, the fastest-growing tech startup in Germany, Blacklane is now available in over 180 cities and 300 airports in 50 countries worldwide. Blacklane’s model of service must have been devised by some experienced travelers because it deals with frequent flyers’ bugbears.
Do you want to know if a car will be there when you need it? Easy book online, and you get a confirmation usually within 48 hours. No more waiting in long taxi queues, or worse still, standing at a deserted taxi rank late at night. They also text you the driver’s details about an hour before pickup — security, which I’m sure is especially appreciated by female travelers. No more anxiously watching the meter as you sit stuck in traffic on the Hammersmith flyover, either! The price is fixed and confirmed when you book, and in my experience, it’s cheaper than a metered taxi. I have no anxiety either about having the right currency or an acceptable credit card. It’s all paid for via your account online. That also makes it a lot easier when filling in your expense claim. They track your flight and will wait in arrivals for up to an hour with no extra charge, which is a lot more generous than most.
Most vehicles have been German prestige models. Business Class vehicles are Mercedes E-Class, for example. Compare that to the motley selection of privately owned trashcans used by some mini-cab firms or Uber drivers. There seem to be no concerns about Blacklane drivers being licensed and insured.
While Uber can be useful at short notice, I still use them as an alternative to black cabs in London for short journeys. You have to book Blacklane at least an hour in advance, so there may be times when I’m not sure when a meeting will finish so, I’ll have to use another company, although you can also cancel up to one hour before pickup without charge.
