information about this post
Fairmont Chateau Whistler is a great hotel choice in Whistler, only beaten by Four Seasons Whistler in terms of quality, but its new renovation means that these two resorts are now comparable. Having previously compared Four Seasons Vs. Fairmont Chateau Whistler earlier in the year, I would now like to share some new reasons why you might choose Fairmont Chateau Whistler for your next stay in Whistler.
Location
Located in the quieter Upper Whistler Village but still only minutes by foot from the effervescent main village. Fairmont Chateau Whistler is on the slope side and right by the Blackcomb lifts, which gives it an unbeatable location for your skiing. Fairmont Chateau Whistler boasts ski-in/ski-out access to one of North America’s premiere ski resorts. You can ski straight to the Mallard Lounge Patio! The hotel’s ski valet is based at the bottom of Blackcomb Mountain.
Whistler is a pedestrian-friendly village. You don’t really need a car. Everything is very close, and you can catch a shuttle directly from Vancouver International Airport to Whistler.
Whistler was the host of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Whistler Blackcomb features 8,100 acres of skiable terrain, 16 alpine bowls, three glaciers, 200 + marked trails, and the record-breaking 4.4-kilometer long PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola connecting the two ski hills.
Style & Character
As you can see from the picture above, the Fairmont offers rooms with a classic alpine style. They are inoffensive but do not inspire either. We like them but don’t love them.
Rooms
In April 2022, a two-phase $14 million guestroom refresh of the hotel’s Fairmont rooms and Mountain View Suites began. Three hundred sixty-six guest rooms and eight suites have been re-styled with an eye-catching, modern alpine lodge décor completed in time for the 2022 winter holiday season. The rooms are rich in natural wood textures, including the striking feature wood headboard. This space is perfect for resting and relaxing after an adventurous day exploring Whistler’s alpine playground. Once the final rooms are complete in early December (next month!), every hotel’s guest room will have been renovated.
The rooms have been designed by Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) with the objective of incorporating elements that accentuate the wonder and beauty of the Whistler Mountains into the guest room experience. To create a modern sense of Alpine luxury.
The hotel’s last big guestroom renovation reveal was in January 2021 with the luxurious Fairmont Gold product. Fairmont Gold rooms set the Fairmont apart as these rooms offer access to the best club lounge in Whistler, the Fairmont Gold Lounge. Fairmont Gold rooms and suites are the only room products with fireplaces.
Service & Facilities
The large outdoor pool, complete with hot tubs, and the Spa are great facilities within the hotel. The wellness and pool area includes a eucalyptus steam room and a dry sauna, open all year round, with two pools and four hot tubs. For winter, there are two outdoor barrel saunas and a lovely firepit with Muskoka chairs around it. There is also a Cabana serving snacks and beverages.
There is a ski room to store your skis, and beyond skiing, the Fairmont Chateau Whistler offers a year-round ‘Whistler Experience Guide’ program with authentically local, guided outings for mild to wild adventurers. This is a unique offering in the village. Excursions include hikes, ski tours, polar bear dips in the lake, snowshoeing, and more. Most activities are free of charge to hotel guests. Daily yoga practices and on-demand MIRROR meditation classes round out wellness activities. In addition, if you like golf, the World Class Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club is within walking distance.
Fairmont Chateau Whistler’s calendar of holiday events from mid to the end of December 17 includes a Virtual Outdoor Reindeer Rally, Gingerbread Cookie Decorating, Wreath Making, Caroling, Marshmallow Roasts, and so much more fun for the whole family, with 60 000 twinkle lights illuminating the hotel, halls decked with enchanting seasonal decorations, gingerbread and fresh pine aromas in the air, and heartwarming melodies of the season nourishing your spirit.
