1. Sofitel Xining

For the very best in Chinese luxury, you’d struggle to find a better example than the exquisite Sofitel Xining in the city of Xining in China.

The hotel lies on the ancient Northern Silk Road in Xining. The largest city on the Tibetan Plateau, Xining, is the capital of Qinghai province in western China. The nearest airport, Caojiapu Airport, is just 25 miles from the hotel, and there is a shuttle bus.

Xining itself offers a unique and utterly fabulous cultural experience, with influence from all the province’s varied cultures; Muslim, Tibetan, and Han Chinese. Browse the colorful street markets and traditional shops, enjoying the contrast with the gleaming modern skyline, all set against an inspiring mountain backdrop.

The opulent, neo-Gothic façade gives you the first hint of what awaits. The lobby is an experience all of its own; soaring ceilings, translucent chandeliers, and marble finishes. Inside, the traditional French chic of a Sofitel hotel blends exquisitely with the glamour of modern Chinese décor. If you decide to book a room rather than a suite, then opt for one with Club Millesime access. The rooms are spacious at 40m2 and are stunning spaces.

Rooms rates at the Sofitel Xining start at £61 GBP per night on 15th May.

2. Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan

Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan is a 19th-century Victorian palace that rises from a ledge of pink granite. Step into the legendary site where King Fouad once entertained, and Agatha Christie sipped cocktails. In the Nubian Desert on the banks of the Nile, opposite Elephantine Island, the majestic hotel sits on a pink granite cliff overlooking the world’s longest river. This ravishing hotel, with its legendary guest list of royals and dignitaries, is both ideal for romantic getaways and a perfect venue for small summits and corporate meetings.

If you can tear yourself away from the beauty of the magnificent Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan, a world of fascination awaits you. Elephantine Island and the Aswan Museum are at your feet. The rock Tombs of Amarna, where ancient Egyptian nobles are buried, are close to the hotel. Aswan city center is a stroll away. Other attractions to tempt you during your stay: the Nubian Museum, the Philae Temple, and the Unfinished Obelisk… then return to indulge in French and oriental cuisine and wines.

Rooms rates at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan start at around £82 GBP per night on 15th May.

3. Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa

Tucked away in the lush surroundings of a wild beach lined with eucalyptus, the Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa is an Eden of lush greenery overlooking a stunning golf course. At 2½ hours’ private transfer from Marrakech airport, the resort is easy to get to from the UK and makes a quick and easy escape to the sunshine.

Inside the hotel, contemporary styling is mixed with authentic Moroccan detailing making this stunning resort in the heart of the Mogador Golf Club a stylish 5-star option. The hotel overlooks Essaouira’s historic port city, which makes a great day trip for those who want to explore a more authentic side of Morocco.

Days at the Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa is spent lazing around one of two pools, heading over to the 18-hole golf course designed by Gary Player, or relaxing at the spa. Kids can head over to the Children’s Villa, and teens are catered for at the QG Lounge, where activities include Moroccan cooking classes, football, and sandcastle building.

The decor of the rooms, suites, and villas combines intense colors, exotic wood, and Moorish motifs, which blend seamlessly with the elegant furniture. Balconies boast panoramic views over the lush green landscape and sea and are the perfect place to relax. The exclusive Sofitel MyBed concept guarantees a restful night’s sleep. The 28 villas are perfect for families. Bathed in natural light, each features a private heated pool and exclusive butler service.

The hotel has four restaurants for plenty of variety. L’Ateliers aux Aromes combines French creativity with Moroccan spices. L’Atlantique offers fresh, local seafood by the pool. So Good is a bistro featuring barbecued flavors. After a round of golf, Le Club House is the place to go. Finally, Le Café Kasbah features international dishes and culinary demonstrations with food prepared both by wok and at tagine stations. There is nowhere better to enjoy a glass of wine or fresh orange juice fresh from the nearby citrus garden than the terrace at sunset. For a romantic meal for two, treat yourself to an intimate dinner on the unspoiled beach.

Rooms rates at the Sofitel Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa start at around £84 GBP per night on 15th May.

4. Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, Vietnam

A prominent fixture in the heart of Hanoi since 1901, Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi beautifully combines French art de Vivre with elegant Vietnamese touches. Located just steps from the Opera House in Hanoï’s French Quarter, this legendary property brings guests into intimate contact with the opulence of another era. You can surround yourself with heritage as you stroll through stately corridors and explore its dramatic past. Daily tours of Metropole’s Path of History and the bomb shelter with historians are offered exclusively for guests staying at the hotel.

The hotel features 364 rooms and suites and excellent meeting and event facilities. The SoFIT by Sofitel gym, situated in the hotel’s inner garden, has been completely redesigned to become a prominent luxury fitness center in Hanoi. The spacious 400 m² Le Spa du Metropole is a calming sanctuary overlooking the charming garden, courtyard, and pool, featuring private massage areas, thematic spa suites for couples, a manicure and pedicure booth, and a humid zone with a steam bath.

In terms of dining, guests can choose between the Parisian-inspired cafe La Terrasse, the popular poolside Bamboo Bar, the Vietnamese restaurant: Spices Garden, the multi-award-winning French restaurant: Le Beaulieu, the bespoke cocktail bar, whiskey lounge, and restaurant: Angelina, and the colonial-inspired Le Club Bar famous for its afternoon high tea and evening jazz performances, there’s truly something to make every gastronomic journey a memorable one.

Room rates at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, Vietnam, start at £107 GBP per night on 15th May.

5. Sofitel London Heathrow

The Sofitel London Heathrow connects directly to Terminal 5 via a walkway and is the only 5-star hotel at Heathrow Airport. It offers several bars, including a Perrier Jouët bar and the Sphere lobby bar, and restaurants including La Belle Epoque, which has been awarded 3 AA Rosettes and is London Heathrow’s only fine-dining restaurant. There is also a spacious 24-hour fitness studio.

The hotel itself has an impressive and busy entrance with orchids and fountains. The rooms above are split into six wings adjoined by open-air walkways that sit under massively high glass atriums. Hotel rooms either look outwards to the airport or inwards over a part of the hotel. For example, some rooms overlook the restaurants, others the marble foyers and reception areas. When we stayed, our room (room 6108) looked out to the roadway coming into the airport. Since none of the rooms look onto the runway or planes, there is little to choose between the inward-facing and outward-facing rooms.

The room was pretty standard for an airport hotel, all be it with plenty of space, upgraded finishings and amenities, and superbly quiet quadruple glazing (double glazing, then a gap, then double glazing again). The blackout curtains were excellent, and the bed was large, so it was easy to get a good night’s sleep. The black marble bathroom (see pictures below) had a walk-in shower and bath with a TV screen in the wall and offered ESPA toiletries.

What made our room interesting is that it included Club Millésime Lounge access. Guests at the Sofitel in a luxury room or suite automatically get access to Club Millésime. Guests in standard rooms can upgrade to use the lounge for around £75 GBP per person. The lounge isn’t big, with seating for around 40 people, but it provides a space to relax and includes internet access, food and drinks. The complimentary continental breakfast was a decent spread with a buffet choice of scrambled egg and sausages, smoked salmon, bread and jams, cereals, fruit, berries, yogurts, and smoothies, as well as juices, coffees, and teas from a machine. I can’t comment on the afternoon tea, as I did not experience it. In the evening, there was a good selection of beers (bottles of Peroni, Asaki, and one other), wines, and spirits. The food offering was not huge and served on tiny plates, but there was just about enough to fill you up with noodle vegetable dishes, chicken skewers, fried fish, greek salad, cheese, biscuits, and nuts.

Rooms rates at the Sofitel London Heathrow start at £133 GBP per night on 15th May.

6. Sofitel Tamuda Bay Beach

Whichever room you choose, you can be sure that you will enjoy a contemporary design, a king-size bed, free internet, LCD TV, Bose radio, tea and coffee-making facilities, a minibar, and a safe. The modern bathrooms offer both shower and bathtub, while each room also boasts a private terrace. Some rooms offer a garden or pool view, while others have a view of the sea and larger rooms incorporate a single sofa bed suitable for a child. The hotel has a wide range of suites where you can enjoy additional space, and some of which boast panoramic Mediterranean views, kitchenettes, generous private terraces, and whirlpool baths. There is even the option to stay in your own villa, with a private pool and butler service, which could be a great idea if you are traveling with friends or family.

There is a beautiful heated pool to sunbathe beside, and of course, the beach is just a stone’s throw away. Kids are well looked after, with plenty of activities on offer, and there is a gym and a spa offering massages and traditional Hammam treatments. A marina, shops, and restaurants can all be found close to the hotel.

Rooms rates at the Sofitel Tamuda Bay Beach start at around £141 GBP per night on 15th May.

The exceptional SoSPA at Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort will help you unwind with soothing treatments and anti-aging treatments. Their kids’ club is ideal for younger guests if you can drag them away from the pool.

The spacious rooms are beautifully furnished with amazing bathrooms offering a walk-in rain shower and a free-standing bathtub. Even the base “luxury” rooms are excellent here. They are large, with 48 m² of living space, a small sofa, and a balcony. The welcome gift here is chocolates, bottled water, and fruit. If you upgrade to a Club Room, you get free food and drink and can use a separate and exclusive pool in the Club Lounge.

If you have kids or like a swim, upgrade to a pool access room. These are swim-up pool rooms. Your kids will want to leap straight out of bed and into the pool. If you book a luxury room with a plunge pool, you get your own private garden with a pool and sunbed; perfectly private and wonderfully romantic.

Upgrading to the Club Millésime rooms, suites and villas offers great value and gives you a quiet and exclusive place to sit, relax, eat, and drink. It includes a sumptuous breakfast, all-day refreshments, evening canapés, an extensive selection of wines, butler services, and many other special benefits.
