Review: Sheraton Grand London Park Lane

Reviews : Accommodation

Located in the very heart of Mayfair, London, in the south of England, you’ll find a historic gem of a hotel, the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane. I adore this area of London and so was very excited to spend a weekend there recently and enjoy a return to the glamour of the 1920s.

The hotel is also running a Missed Celebration Stay Experience currently and with so many missed events during 2020 and 2021, we were very excited to see what this experience had in store for us.

Why We Love This Hotel

The Sheraton Grand London Park Lane really does have everything I look for in a London hotel: that fantastic location, stunning décor (Art Deco is a huge favorite of mine), a club lounge, and impeccable service. The parking is also a definite bonus and quite rare to find in central London hotels. It’s definitely one to return to again and again.

Location

The Sheraton Grand Park Lane is ideally located in the heart of London’s Mayfair district. It lies Piccadilly overlooking Green Park which borders Buckingham Palace with its famous Mall Avenue (which the Queen looks over on big events). It’s an excellent location; near to Knightsbridge, to both Harrods and Harvey Nics and Regent Street for shopping. Directly opposite the hotel is Green Park and Hyde Park runs along Park Lane to the west of the hotel. Both are perfect for a stroll and a spot of people watching.

Best Time To Visit

There can be no bad time to visit London. Although late Spring and Summer bring the most visitors, early Spring is a great time to visit as the city’s parks are in full bloom. Even on rainy days, the museums and galleries beckon and Christmas time is just magical with the lights of Regent Street, Bond Street, Oxford Street, and Covent Garden.

How To Get There

If you are driving to the hotel, simply head just behind the main hotel building, down Brick Lane, to find the hotel’s parking facilities. If you are arriving by train, the hotel lies just a 5-minute walk from Green Park Underground station. As the station is on the Piccadilly line, if you are arriving by air, Heathrow Airport can also be found on this line so you won’t even need to change trains. Alternatively, if you wish to transfer by taxi, Heathrow Airport is 25km away, the journey usually takes a little over 30 minutes.

Style & Character

The hotel was founded in 1927 and is housed within a Grade II listed building, today the décor perfectly encapsulates the roaring 1920s with a stunning Art Deco vibe displayed throughout. The glitzy Art Deco foyer runs from one end of the hotel to the other. At its center, you will find the ultra-stylish Palm Court bar with its stained-glass ceiling; a fabulous location for evening drinks, and the afternoon tea lounge. The lighting here in the evening was beautiful too, the high ceilings giving it a really dramatic feel; totally fitting of my expectation of 1920s glamour.

Service & Facilities

The hotel boasts a Club Lounge, which of course is always welcome anywhere, but especially in central London where food and drink prices can be on the high side. The Lounge itself is large with a variety of seating areas and a boardroom. They serve breakfast, drinks and snacks throughout the day, an afternoon tea and evening drinks and canapés. I review this facility in full here: https://www.luxurytraveldiary.com/2017/11/club-lounge-review-sheraton-grand-park-lane-london/.

The hotel also has a variety of meeting and event spaces, the most notable being the breathtaking Grade II listed Ballroom with its own exclusive entrance that will definitely give your guests the wow factor. The Sheraton Grand London Park Lane also has that elusive central London parking that I value so highly as well as a fitness center open 24/7, a hotel concierge to attend to your reservations and arrangements, complimentary wi-fi and an express check-in and check-out facility.

It’s easy to say with a hotel of this caliber that the service was excellent, to be honest, that’s my expectation! Granted, it’s not always the case, but thankfully it certainly was at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane. However, the service here we found to be really special; warm, personal, inviting, you genuinely felt like nothing was too much trouble. They are also excellent with families, from the moment our children were personally presented with the cutest Sheraton Dalmatian pup cuddly toys on arrival, they were smitten with the whole place!

Missed Celebration Stay Experience

The hotel is running a lovely missed celebration experience so you can make the very most of any birthdays, anniversaries, or engagements that couldn’t be properly celebrated at the time. As part of these celebrations, you are spoilt with little extras and a whole heap of TLC to make your stay extra memorable. The engagement celebration, for example, includes a bottle of fizz, an in-room breakfast, and an hour in the ballroom for a photoshoot! We chose to celebrate our daughter’s birthday in style; and what style! The room was decorated for her with balloons and banners, she had a cake waiting for her and another was presented at dinner, and every staff member we met seemed to know it was her birthday; how perfect for a little girl, I’d recommend this treatment for everyone, every year to be quite honest!

Rooms

There are 275 rooms and 30 suites spread across 8 floors. All guest rooms are spacious with individual climate control. Everything you need for a comfortable stay is present; large ensuite bathrooms, and interactive flat-screen TVs, complimentary toiletries (ours were Molton Brown), very comfortable beds, desks, as well as tea and coffee making facilities, and complimentary bottled water. That elegant Art Deco décor continues throughout the bedrooms too and our room had a statement mirror I rather fell for!

Choose from Deluxe, Superior, or Club Rooms, you can also opt for a Park View. The Club Rooms are located at the top of the building and suffer from a wonderful lack of noise, giving you as close to a guarantee of a good night’s sleep as possible!

Best Rooms

Though all the rooms are spacious, we were totally charmed by the Grand Park View Suite and I would definitely recommend splurging on a suite if budget permits. The suite was absolutely vast, of course with the view of Green Park! As well as the huge bedroom itself, the glorious bathroom boasted a huge wet room area with a rainfall shower and bath as well as double vanities. There was also a large living area with a separate dining room, more than enough space for all four of us to spread out and make ourselves totally at home. This suite would be ideal for extended stays too.

Food & Drink

We dined in Mercante, the hotel’s delightful Italian restaurant, where we tucked into a very generous buffet breakfast spread to kick-start our day and come evening, dined on delectable Italian cuisine. The colorful art deco décor somehow manages to both wake your senses first thing and then soothe them when flooded with candlelight! It was also really refreshing to dine in a central London restaurant that is contemporary and as much as I love fine dining, the excellent Italian cuisine was a treat and a real highlight of our stay. Outside the restaurant, you’ll find the Ciao Malfy, Ciao Mercante Terrace; the place to go to make you feel as though you’ve stepped out on the Amalfi coast as opposed to central London!

We were again delighted by the service, of particular note was when my daughter was served a birthday treat with a slice of (divine!) cheesecake; when our waiter noticed she wasn’t tucking in like the rest of us we casually mentioned she was more of a chocolate fan, sure enough, a huge slab of chocolate cake was produced and the birthday girl has the absolute biggest smile!

The hotel is also home to Smith & Whistle where you can choose between an expertly crafted cocktail or sample London’s finest craft beers.
