Vienna, Austria’s capital, lies in the country’s east on the Danube River. Past residents include Mozart, Beethoven, and Sigmund Freud. It is a wonderful and historic city to visit. The city is known for its baroque streetscapes, imperial palaces, including Schönbrunn, the Habsburgs’ summer residence, its coffee-house culture, and vibrant design scene. Wherever you are in the world, Four Seasons hotels are consistently one of the best hotels in that city or resort. Is There A Four Seasons In Vienna?
The answer is no. There is not currently a Four Seasons in Vienna, which is a real shame. Although Four Seasons hotels are not cheap, their reliably expensive room rates mean that their rooms are reliably excellent, and a Four Seasons hotel is always a blissfully and reliably luxurious retreat.
But don’t be put off. There are also some alternative luxurious hotels that you can book into.
Where Should I Stay?
The best luxury hotels in Vienna include Park Hyatt Vienna, Hotel Bristol, Hotel Imperial, The Ritz-Carlton, Imperial Riding School Renaissance Vienna Hotel, Le Meridien Vienna, The Renaissance Wien, Vienna, and Vienna Marriott Hotel.
If you like the Four Seasons brand, you will undoubtedly love the Park Hyatt, but the Hotel Bristol and Hotel Imperial are also worth considering, which are both part of the Marriott brand.
The Park Hyatt Vienna is a gorgeous luxury hotel is set in a tasteful conversion of the headquarters of an Austrian Hungarian Monarchy Bank, right in the heart of The Golden Quarter.
Everything from The Opera to The Spanish Riding School, museums, cafés, and the best designer label shops (including Vuitton, Burberry, Hermes) is within easy strolling range of this palace of good taste. The conversion retains many features of the 100-year-old Neo-classical building, including marble staircases polished by the leather of countless bank clerks’ scurrying brogues.
The shape and size of the guest rooms and suites are determined by the layout of the offices, and here there were some very important customers, so the proportions are generous, and the top-notch toiletries in the bathrooms are by Blaise Mautin.
Double height ceilings and vast mirrors again amplify the feeling of space. The standard or deluxe rooms are very generous, with a very good bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. All lights, blinds, and curtains can be controlled from touch-sensitive switch panels, which are easy to find, and all-important controls are repeated on the bedside table.
One of our favorite aspects of this hotel is the swimming pool (pictured above), situated under the barrel ceiling of the old bank vault. The original vault door (think one-foot thick plate steel like a James Bond movie) is still in place though you now access the pool via a different route. The pool itself is lined with golden tiles in the shape of gold bricks, and with calming piped music under the water, the pool is both warm enough for relaxing and large enough for exercise.
Bank restaurant is a glorious space, with 8m high ceilings and opulent decor. The breakfast offering is of very high quality with many locally sourced ingredients (try the Styrian honey). We experienced some inconsistencies in service at breakfast time, but in the evening, everything was flawless. The restaurant has a completely different ambiance in the evening with lower lighting and the backlit stained glass panels in the roof.
Alternatively, pick Hotel Bristol, a Luxury Collection Hotel which is a Rewards Category 7 Marriott Bonvoy hotel, situated opposite the Vienna State Opera. Architecture and history buffs adore the interiors, from the original Austrian artwork to the fin de siècle antiques.
The guestrooms, suites, and public areas offer modern comforts, including Internet access. The Prince of Wales Suite is one of the largest in Austria, with a library, dining room, and fitness room. Dining options include the Bristol Lounge and the cozy Bristol Bar, both featuring meticulously restored interiors. The hotel has undergone an extensive renovation of all public spaces, as well as ten additional rooms and suites.
Our final top choice is the Hotel Imperial, a Luxury Collection Hotel which is a Rewards Category 7 Marriott Bonvoy hotel, standing in the very city center of Vienna, the heart of Europe, next to the famous Musikverein Concert Hall. This former palace was personally inaugurated by Emperor Franz Joseph I in April 1873.
The building’s architectural details exemplify the neo-renaissance style. The Hotel Imperial features 106 renovated guest rooms and 32 suites, including 2 famous Royal Suites. On the 5th floor, the hotel offers suites with a stunning view over the city of Vienna. For a century, this symbol of hospitality has received the city’s most distinguished visitors.
The deluxe Restaurant Opus – Vienna´s new gourmet address and Vienna’s most famous Cafe Imperial Vienna, as well as the outstanding meeting and banqueting halls, complement the services on offer. Imperial Torte has also been awarded a Michelin star and three toques by Gault Millau.
The hotel reached new heights of luxury after the last renovation in 2011 of the upper floors. 19 Rooms and Suites overlooking the historical city of Vienna have been refreshed and is one of the best Marriott hotels in Vienna.
