When choosing areas to stay in Mexico City, the two main areas where you will find all the luxury hotels are Polanco and Reforma. The JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City, InterContinental, Hyatt, and W, along with Habita and Los Alcobas hotels, are all located in Polanca, within a couple of blocks of each other. This is a wealthy but perhaps dull neighborhood that feels safe, but it doesn’t offer as much the soul of Mexico City as other areas.
There are loads of high-end shops and restaurants in Polanco. The Museo Soumaya is one of the most stunning pieces of architecture in Mexico City, but getting to and from Polanco can take a long time in the Mexico City traffic. As there’s no subway, expect to endure queues.
It’s also worth considering the Sofitel, Marriott, and Hilton in the area of Reforma. These are in a more vibrant area that is more interesting for walking and seeing the historic sites.
The best hotels within Mexico City are listed below:
1. Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City
Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City is steps away from the Angel of Independence and a five-minute walk away from the leafy Bosque de Chapultepec park. It is situated on Paseo de la Reforma in downtown Mexico City, ideal for Mexico City’s financial and business areas, but also for tourists. La Condesa and Roma’s trendy bars and restaurants are also not far away.
With 240 rooms, this Four Seasons is larger than many of its smaller counterparts around the world, but this is most likely the hotel of choice for the majority of the successful businessmen and women, and the rich, who want to come to Mexico City. As such, you will most likely notice a high volume of suited clientele doing business here in the foyer or one of the hotel’s many meeting rooms.
There is the most enormous, sweeping, curved marble staircase near the entrance, and many of the corridors sport black and white squared marble flooring and large pillars with arched windows that look out onto the formal central courtyard. The whole place feels regal rather than cozy, and you can expect glittering decor and jewelry displays.
For casual dining, enjoy cocktails in the gastro bar Fifty Mils with its arched windows and doors that swing open to let the fresh air from the courtyard in. Fine dining can be had at the hotel’s restaurants, and if you like, you can eat and drink alfresco under the greenery in the hotel’s rather lovely courtyard garden.
The hotel has a rooftop outdoor pool which is stylish but quite small and is flanked by loungers. There’s also a spa offering massages, a spa tub, and a sauna.
Rooms are chic and large, with views to the main avenue or inwards to the courtyard. Some have terraces overlooking the courtyard, so you can take your morning coffee or evening drinks in private. Bathrooms are typically Four Seasons large and have L’Occitane products.
My favorite features of this Four Seasons hotel are the beautiful arched windows found throughout the hotel, including many of the rooms and the fresh, verdant courtyard. Here you feel completely safe, and this peaceful haven is the perfect place to enjoy food and drinks under trellises covered in greenery and, of course, under the Mexican stars.
Wherever you are in the world, Four Seasons hotels are consistently one of the best hotels in that city or resort. 2. Sofitel Mexico City Reforma
Sofitel Mexico City Reforma is located in the heart of Mexico City’s historic Reforma Avenue, Sofitel Mexico City Reforma and offers a chic French style mixed with the vibrant and lively Mexican culture. It is just steps away from iconic monuments as the Angel of Independence and the Castle of Chapultepec. It is one of the best luxury hotels in Mexico City with one of the best club lounges.
At the base of the hotel sits a restored house originally built in 1983; the historic structure was incorporated into the modern design of the 40-story building in order to preserve the city’s architecture and history, resulting in a dramatic and striking exterior built upon both contemporary and classic architecture and design styles.

The area feels like a business district, and the hotel is located on a giant boulevard, but it is within walking distance from other neighborhoods like Condesa.
The St. Regis Mexico City is a massive high-rise that rises 31 stories above the Mexico City streets. The hotel offers refined spaces with nods to rich local culture and impeccably appointed accommodations, featuring plush bedding, immaculate marble bathrooms, and floor-to-ceiling windows.

The St. Regis, and the Four Seasons for that matter, is well located and easy access to the rest of the city. This is probably the best location of any Marriott in Mexico City. It’s the closest to Roma Norte and Condesa, which are interesting neighborhoods and an easy stroll to Chapultepec Park.
4. Las Alcobas, a Luxury Collection Hotel
Situated in one of Mexico City’s most centrally located and vibrant districts, Las Alcobas, a Luxury Collection Hotel is surrounded by a rich selection of culture, entertainment, dining and shopping attractions in Mexico City. Take a stroll through La Zona de Polanco, or “Polanquito”, a quaint old shopping area with market-style stores, simple restaurants, and artisan folk crafts. Later, move from quaint to exquisite at the popular Masaryk Shopping Area bedecked with exceptional restaurants, lounges, and high-end boutique and designer stores.
The entire hotel is definitely compact, with a small lobby, no bar, and some restaurants. If you are looking for a full-service, everything-you-want hotel, the St. Regis outlined above is much more modern and much bigger. Las Alcobas arguably has a similarly great location, with great high-end restaurants and good coffee shops a stone’s throw away and offering a nice walk to the big park in Polanco.
35 smallish but luxurious guest rooms include four larger deluxe suites and penthouses, which offer a home-away-from-home” luxury experience. Bathe in the signature five-fixture bathrooms featuring rain showers, soaking whirlpool tubs, and an assortment of handmade body soaps. 5. Presidente Intercontinental Polanco
Presidente Intercontinental Polanco is an extraordinary, ultra-luxury hotel in one of the largest metropolises of the world.
This hotel is located in the heart of Polanco, the best area of the capital, known for hosting international corporations, diplomatic headquarters, great gastronomic offers, museums, and the most exclusive shops in its famous Avenida Presidente Masaryk.
Presidente InterContinental® is one of the icons of Mexico City for being the first international hotel, with 42 floors, 700 rooms, 6 specialty restaurants, a Mixology Bar, and more than 1,800 m2 of rooms for all kinds of meetings and events.
The executive club lounge is lovely with dark wood ceilings, brown and cream furnishings, and with a buffet and magazines to one side and seating to the other, where the windows are. This club lounge is noteworthy for its extraordinary views, which you can enjoy through large windows.
This is an extra cost lounge. Whatever your loyalty status, you won’t get access to this lounge without paying for a Club Room. The lounge includes private check-in, with a complimentary welcome drink, buffet breakfast, with eggs cooked your way, afternoon tea, with freshly made sweet and savory delights, and evening drinks & canapés.
You can see what we have experienced in terms of food and drink at the club lounge at InterContinental O2 in London and the club lounge at InterContinental Park Lane which will give you an idea of what to expect. This InterContinental club lounge will undoubtedly be one of the best, with a substantial hot and cold buffet and a la carte breakfast and evening canapes and alcoholic drinks.
6. W Mexico City
W Mexico City is located off Reforma Boulevard in the stylish Polanco neighborhood with chic shops, a fast-paced cultural landscape, and tempting nightlife. Stay in style with sleek, fashionable furnishings and signature touches in the 237 sparkling guest rooms and suites.
Keep the party going at the Living Room Bar, featuring an exclusive, daring décor and the most innovative signature cocktail collection in the city. For business, there are 9 meeting studios totaling 7,700 square feet of space for events from anywhere from 10 to 340 guests.
7. Hilton Reforma
Unusually, in Mexico City, most guests report the Hilton Reforma to be a far superior property when compared to the JW Marriott or the Marriott Reforma. It is not in Polanco. It is instead located in a more vibrant area which is more interesting for walking.
This 458-room hotel has a 25-meter rooftop pool, spa, fitness center, three restaurants, and art from acclaimed Mexican artists throughout. The lobby of this Hilton is also appealing, and the fitness center is a great plus, there is a lap pool with astounding views of the city.
The executive lounge is spacious with sweeping views of the sprawling city. Breakfast and happy hour are both good with a nice spread of food. In fact, the breakfast is of similar quality (if slightly less choice) as the breakfast in the main restaurant.
8. JW Marriott Mexico City
The JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City, InterContinental, Hyatt, and W along with Habita, and Los Alcobas hotels are all within a couple of blocks of each other in the area of Polanco.
JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City is a Rewards Category 6 Marriott Bonvoy hotel, and as we have outlined above, it is nestled in the heart of the Polanco District. From here, you have easy access to Chapultepec Castle on Chapultepec Hill, the National Auditorium, Teotihuacan, and Xochimilco-Floating Gardens.
The rooms here are stylish with a traditional look, overstuffed armchairs, and high–end mattresses. The view of the park and skyline is nice, but be aware that the traffic noise is quite bad as the windows aren’t double-glazed.
In terms of dining, you can fuel up with a delicious Mexican or French dish from their on-site restaurants, Xanat Bistro & Terraza and Brasserie Lipp. There’s an outdoor pool and a rather small health club with cardio equipment and free weights.
The executive lounge is small with dated decor, and it can get crowded, so this not one of the best club lounges in Mexico City. It offers breakfast and dinner buffets, mainly cold, similar to a domestic US hotel club lounge. This lounge is what you might expect from your average Marriott rather than a JW Marriott. Not great. Reports suggest that the wine is free in this executive lounge with the evening cocktails, but beer is not free.
The hot dishes for the evening offering in the club lounge are usually limited to one chicken and one potato or rice dish, not really filling enough for a main meal. Still, on the bright side, there are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance.
9. Marriott Reforma
The Marriott Reforma is not as good as the Hilton Reforma outlined above. Both have club lounges, but at the Marriott Reforma, a portion of the rooms face a wall of another building.
This executive club lounge is nice and comes with its own outdoor patio at the top of the hotel building (this club lounge takes up the whole 16th floor), but the drink offering lacks any free alcohol in the evening, so you have to pay hotel prices for your booze. The food is OK but not great with two basic hot dishes at breakfast (eggs and bacon etc.) and a cold buffet. In the evening, the food is enough to fill you up (just) and Mexican-themed.
Overall, the hotel is a little dated, so the Hilton is the better choice in the area, and if you are looking for the best Marriott in Mexico City with a club lounge, you will do better picking the JW. It is worth noting that this hotel is near the Zona Rosa, which is known to be a high crime area, so take care if you choose this hotel as your base.
10. Hyatt Regency Mexico City
Hyatt Regency Mexico City is located in the trendy Polanco neighborhood, the perfect spot in which to explore the authentic art, shops, restaurants and nightlife. The hotel is just steps away from the National Auditorium, the award-winning Anthropology Museum, and one of the world’s biggest urban parks, Bosque de Chapultepec. The 755 luxurious rooms at this Hyatt property have marble baths, and suites overlook Chapultepec Park and Lincoln Park.
Regency Club perks include private check-in and check-out, plus food and beverages all day at Regency Club Lounge. This lounge has just been renovated. It offers great views from the 40th floor, but we have not heard any reviews of the new version of this lounge.
Beyond the club lounge, restaurant offerings include the Teppan Grill with cooking demos tableside and El Jardin’s famous Sunday brunch.
