Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, is located on the southern end of Vancouver Island. With abundant parkland, it’s known for outdoor activities. Named for Queen Victoria, this garden city is situated in the south of Vancouver Island and is the capital of British Columbia. The city is compact and perfect to discover on foot.
1. Fairmont Empress
Fairmont Empress is recognized as one of Top 21 Iconic Hotels in the World by National Geographic Traveler magazine, honored with Travel + Leisure Magazine’s World’s Best Award for Top 10 City Hotels in Canada, and regarded as a Condé Nast Readers’ Choice and Gold List hotel.
The Fairmont Empress is located in Victoria, BC overlooking the city’s sparkling Inner Harbour. While it is not a boutique hotel as such, it is worth a mention as it is such an iconic hotel in the city of Victoria.
Fairmont Empress features 464 well-appointed, air-conditioned guest rooms and suites. Many of the rooms offer magnificent views of the harbor, city, and gardens. With a wide selection of unique guestrooms featuring classic details and modern touches, the Empress is sure to make your stay in Victoria unforgettable.
The intimate Fairmont Gold rooms are their best rooms and the ones to pick. Elegant and rich decor inspired by the natural beauty of Vancouver Island compliment sleek furnishings and modern marble bathrooms, each with a rainfall shower. When you book these rooms, you get access to exclusive Fairmont Gold amenities which includes the Gold Executive Club Lounge.
Fairmont Gold was never been and still is not, a benefit of Accor Platinum status. Unlike most Fairmont hotels, there is not a dedicated Fairmont Gold floor either, although booking a Fairmont Gold room does give you lounge access.
The Fairmont Gold rooms and suites are spread throughout the hotel on different floors. The Fairmont Gold lounge here is very good with a massive outside patio overlooking the Inner Harbour so it is worth paying to upgrade your room and to get access to this excellent club lounge. This is definitely the best executive club lounge in Victoria.
2. Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort & Spa
Delta Hotels Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort provides comforting amenities and an exciting location near downtown Victoria, BC. Nestled along the waterfront, this modern hotel connects you with attractions like The Butchart Garden and Royal British Columbia Museum.
They’re a short walk from the British Columbia Parliament Buildings and Fisherman’s Wharf. After a day of fun, retreat to your room or suite, outfitted with plush beds and stylish decor.
The Delta is on the harbor so have very nice water views and nice areas for walking. You can watch the seaplanes and boats and at night the skyline view is fantastic plus Downtown is an easy walk.
The rooms are nice and you can savor a great meal at LURE Restaurant & Bar or a quick snack at Harbour Grab ‘n Go. Maintain your fitness routine at the 24-hour fitness center, indoor pool, and tennis court.
The executive club lounge has a patio overlooking the water at this Delta hotel, which is great and breakfast and dinner include hot dishes. Breakfast includes bacon, eggs, hash browns, fruit, oatmeal, pastries.
Evening food includes cheese, pita bread, hummus, fruit, tortilla chips, veggies, and 3 hot appetizers which change every night. Usually one seafood-based (shrimp dishes etc), one veggie one and one meat (meatballs, chicken skewers, etc).
3. Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour
Marriott Inner Harbour does not feel as luxurious as the Delta above and the bar and restaurant are not nearly as good as those offered by Delta, but the location is arguably better for sightseeing although not for views.
The executive lounge is closed from Friday morning to Sunday evening but you get a full breakfast in the restaurant or 1000 pts per night if you are a high-status Marriott Bonvoy loyalty member when the lounge is not open.
4. The Inn at the Union Club of British Columbia
Ensconced within the Union Club of British Columbia can be found the Inn at the Union Club. Refined and discreet, this century-old Inn is a boutique hotel and an oasis of privacy and privilege that combines Old World flair with the most modern of hotel amenities.
Now, this hotel doesn’t have a standard club lounge, but if you are a member of a Union Club or are a guest of a member, or if you belong to any of our over 400 affiliated clubs, worldwide, you can access all the Union Club facilities and book a room. Facilities include the Club’s Fitness Centre, the Billiards Room, the Rooftop Terrace, and a variety of exceptional dining options.
The Inn at the Union Club of British Columbia has 22 guest rooms, including seven suites with separate sitting rooms. All rooms are appointed with comfortable queen or king-sized beds, and many of the Inn’s rooms have marvelous views of the scenic Victoria Inner Harbour. The Union Club Inn is ideal for both leisure and business travelers.
The Union Club is located in the heart of downtown Victoria, right next to one of Canada’s most beautiful harbors and within walking distance of dozens of interesting shops, restaurants, art galleries, bookstores, eco-adventures, and tourist attractions.
5. The Westin Bear Mountain Victoria Golf Resort and Spa
Set along lush golf greens and framed by Vancouver Island’s rugged mountains, The Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa, Victoria offers stunning natural beauty and laid-back comforts. Unfortunately, even though most Marriott hotels have a club lounge, The Westin Bear Mountain Victoria Golf Resort and Spa does not have an executive club lounge, which is why it comes at the bottom of our list.
While this is not a boutique hotel it is a very good choice in the area, particularly if you collect or spend Marriott Bonvoy loyalty points. The charming harbor city of Victoria is just 25 minutes away.
