There is nothing worse than a busy beach. What you want is a beach so secret, so far off the beaten track, that you can have it to yourself. In this review, I reveal my favourite secret beaches on earth with you. Beaches that you are unlikely to have heard of and are even less likely to have visited.
Each beach comes with a story, such as the beach bordering the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo reef, where I tried to spend 3 nights sleeping in a swag bag. Nowadays you can stay in more salubrious surroundings at Sal Salis resort, with luxuries such as a bed and en-suite bathroom with a nature-loo, and running water, all set in the dunes which border the beach and the reef.
I am dearly fond of all the beaches in Guernsey in the Channel Islands, particularly Fermain bay which has an ethereal quality; a paradise lost-style cove with sea bluer than you will see in the Mediterranean.
Of course, Hawaii probably offers the largest concentration of remote and beautiful beaches in the world. Although you may have been fortunate enough to visit some of these islands, most people don’t make it to the secluded beaches on Lanai.
