We were honored to be chosen to nominate our 10 best destination resorts in 2017 for USA Today. These destination resorts were selected by ourselves and two other luxury travel bloggers, and I wanted to share our choices as well as giving readers the chance to vote for their favorite destination resorts out of those nominated.
These destination resorts are vacation-worthy destinations, complete with plush accommodations, world-class dining, relaxing spa treatments, and a host of indoor and outdoor activities – a complete vacation in a single package.
We picked a number of resorts that we just keep returning to. We absolutely love the recently refurbished Four Seasons Lanai, which sits on the exclusive Hawaiian island of Lanai (pictured above). This resort has the most perfect and empty beach. In fact, because Lanai is less populated than many of the other Hawaiian islands, you can wander down to this beach at twilight, and you may well be the only one there. The hotel is stunning, with a beautiful pool overlooking the bay and a Nobu bar and restaurant, which is the perfect place for a meal and a nightcap. Of course, a man in traditional dress lights Tiki torches at this Four Seasons each evening, but our highlight on our last visit was to sit on the beach and watch the wild dolphins play close to the shore – magic, and so good that we will be returning soon.
Another particular favorite is the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai Kailua-Kona in Hawaii. This hotel has wild turtles that will swim with you in the sea and come up and say hi on their beach, alfresco showers, and Tikki-lit evenings at the water’s edge. You can also take a trip to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and see the volcanoes erupting into the sea!
Finally, we love Amangiri, the ultra-luxury Aman retreat in the Utah desert. Think firepits, pools dug out of the desert floor, and incredible star-lit night skies like nowhere else. Amangiri which also features in best wilderness lodges in America.
