There is nothing better than swimming in your own private space or marvelling at how the blue of the infinity pool merges with the blue of the sky. Here is my pick of the best villas to help you to achieve the ultimate poolside dream.

In our number one spot is the simply glorious Raiwasa Grand Villa in Fiji (pictured above) with an amazing infinity pool looking over the bay. Located on Taveuni; the “garden island” of Fiji, it’s perched high above the South Pacific, with awesome 180-degree views overlooking the Somosomo Straight. Surrounding the villa is a lush tropical carpet of green rainforest, swaying palm trees and fabulously colourful tropical flowers. Expect spectacular sunsets and with the total lack of light pollution at night, this villa falls asleep under a blanket of stars.

Number two in our incredible villa selection is El Alma Private Villa & Soul Retreat which is designed to ensure its guests have the time and space to find calm and inner peace. The villa is set in a tropical paradise within the lush green hills of the Papagayo Península with views of the Playa Prieta on the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The views from the garden over the Pacific are take-your-breath-away fabulous and the garden really is the ideal place to relax and disconnect.

Our third choice is the Beach Enclave development in Turks and Caicos. These luxury villas are right on the oceanfront. Here, you can enjoy all the privacy of a home from home, but with the bespoke service and amenities you’d expect from a top boutique resort, including your own dedicated butler. As if that wasn’t enough, you’ll also have access to a private beach.

Finally, for those with a slightly smaller budget, try a sumptuous villa in Greece, which also offers an infinity pool and is set on Greece’s pristine island of Crete.

A still relatively unspoiled tropical paradise, Turks and Caicos is well worth visiting, not least for its stunning white-sand beaches. In fact, some of the world’s best are located here. It also offers excellent cuisine, a whole host of watersports, traditional music and crafts, and a wealth of interesting places to visit including salt lakes and uninhabited islands and cays.
