Book A Hotel

Beach hotels are hard to find in Bordeaux, but we have searched, found, and selected the best of the best for your next trip to combine wine and sand in Bordeaux.

The beautiful region of Bordeaux is packed with sandy beaches, charming villages, and seaside towns, and that’s before you even consider the vineyards for which the area is renowned! You can spend many a happy hour exploring fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Bordeaux itself, the wine-making town of St Emilion, and the forts around Citadel de Blaye. Cap Ferret, a chic, chilled-out seaside town, is the place to be seen and is great to explore by bike. Several airlines fly direct from London to Bordeaux, including Easyjet, Ryanair, and British Airways.

With a little over an hour and a half flight time, this is a perfect destination for a long weekend in the French sunshine. As for accommodation in this enchanting area, you are rather spoilt for choice, so these are my Top 5 recommendations for a hotel or villa that places you near the beach.

1. Villa La Tosca

This is a stunning 5-star, fully serviced Boutique Villa Hotel with eight luxurious bedrooms and suites set in an amazing mansion house, an ecological swimming pool, beautiful sun terrace, gardens, and exquisite gourmet dining.

The beautiful Villa La Tosca gets our top position. Each of the spacious suites has a unique look and feel. They are all contemporary in design and finished in beautiful fabrics and furnishings. All the suites either offer a view looking across the beautiful gardens or out to sea. One of the rooms even offers a 360-degree view! The hotel is situated on the shores of the tranquil Arcachon Bay, set between the sea and beautiful pine forests, and is less than an hour’s drive from the world-famous vineyards of Bordeaux. It is also possible to hire the entire property for exclusive use – perfect for special occasions or if you’re traveling with a group.

2. La Corniche

La Corniche is a former hunting lodge and is set right on the sand dunes; it’s achingly stylish with a definite hint of art deco and has a beautiful infinity pool. Situated 4.5 km from the tallest sand dune in Europe, Dune du Pilat, and 5.7 km from the Plage des Arbousiers beach. The seafood restaurant is very much the place to go – the sea views from the terrace are magnificent. There is also a popular bar. The garden even has a giant chessboard – perfect for entertaining the children while you sip a glass of rose in the sun!

3. L’Etang Du Cygne

Translated, L’Etang Du Cygne means ‘Swan Lake’, but it’s a family of ducks that you’ll find living on the pond just outside this delightful, rustic, ivy-covered country cottage. There are three double bedrooms, a living room, a well-equipped outdoor kitchen, and a beautiful patio area as well as a private pool. The cottage is situated in Médoc and is well situated to explore this beautiful region. This hotel is not strictly on the beach, but the beach at Montalivet is just a short drive away.

4. Grand Atlantic Hotel

Grand Atlantic Hotel is a charming, colorful 4-star hotel that fully embraces its’ seaside theme, it’s actually very tastefully done and has a lovely, calm atmosphere throughout. There are 55 bedrooms, a solarium with a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, and a fitness room. The hotel is situated in beautiful Arcachon, with many tempting sporting, cultural, and gourmet treats at your fingertips.

5. Le B d’Arcachon

Le B d’Arcachon is a smart 3-star hotel that makes it onto the top 5 because it has a luxurious finish but mainly because it is literally steps from the beach at Arcachon. There are 56 rooms and suites. The deluxe rooms, with their beautiful panoramic views of the bay and the spacious suites, would get my vote and are much more a 4-star finish than a 3-star. Breakfast is a delicious French buffet affair, and there is a comfortable lounge area and complimentary Wi-Fi.

A trip to the region of Bordeaux really does have it all: culture, wonderful French cuisine, stunning beaches, and, of course, it would be wrong to ignore what makes it famous: that rather delectable wine! A stay in one of these beach hotels and villas places you perfectly to enjoy all that Bordeaux has to offer.
