On your next trip to Barcelona, I’ve compiled a shortlist of the top 5 best luxury apartments in the city to ensure that your accommodation meets your exacting luxury standards. Staying in an apartment gives you the freedom to explore the city on your own terms, with the flexibility to come and go as you please, yet ample space to make your own. Barcelona is one of my favorite European cities as it offers that unusual mix of a fabulous city to explore with truly unique architecture and some beautiful beaches to relax on, too.
It’s also super-easy to get to; you have several options for flights to Barcelona’s El Prat airport from London; you can fly with British Airways, Iberia, Ryanair or Easyjet. The flight time is always around 2 hours, so this is perfect long weekend territory. Now, onto the exciting bit, where to stay…
1. El Palauet Living Barcelona
My number one stop gives you a stunningly designed apartment right in the city center (pictured above); with opulent, uber-modern interior design, a sumptuous mix of thick fabrics, steel chairs, stylish dining tables, and Jacobsen egg armchairs. There are six apartments here, each sleeping four people max across two bedrooms. They feature all the mod cons – complimentary Wi-Fi, satellite TVs, iPod docks, iPad minis, touch screen pads for music, lighting, and climate control. They all include kitchens and living areas and either a balcony or terrace. From the moment that you step inside, your personal assistant attends to your every need at whatever time of the day or night – a very nice extra touch. A rather special rooftop spa is the place to go to ease your tired muscles after a busy day exploring the sights of Barcelona. Here, you will find a sauna, massage room, relaxation area, and amazing city views. Although there is no restaurant or bar, there is 24-hour room service available from the concierge, which is excellent and even includes Mediterranean and Japanese menus. The hotel is just 10 miles from the airport, located on the lively Passeig de Gràcia, which is just a 2-minute walk from the Diagonal metro station.
2.The Luxury Maria Antonieta Apartment
For a romantic luxury apartment, look no further than the very aptly named Luxury Maria Antonieta Apartment. The apartment is standout and beautiful, with plush antique furniture, rich woodwork, spectacular chandeliers, and a rather quirky edge. There is no hint of boredom or fussiness. The finish is very glam and modern. It just uses antique pieces and historic touches. The apartment can sleep up to 7 comfortably across its’ 3 double bedrooms and one single. There is also a living room, spacious kitchen, and private terrace. The apartment is located in the Eixample District, just a few blocks from Paseo de Gracia.
3. The Luxury Valentina Apartment
This apartment has been furnished with high-quality, organic materials and was designed to look and feel like a five-star hotel, and I would concur that the brief has been successful! Sustainable materials, including natural wood floors, Corian and marble in the bathrooms, and 100% wool carpets, were used and sit beautifully alongside designer furniture, designer lamps, and modern artwork. Sleeping 5 across two double bedrooms and a single, the apartment also includes a spacious living room and a wide kitchen which includes a dining table. The apartment is situated in the Eixample District.
4. The Luxury Olivia Apartment
This one is an unusual property. It opens to 85m2 of space but can also be closed down with modular doors if privacy is required. The gorgeous apartment has a modern, urban feel, with huge, high ceilings and all the mod cons you would expect and more besides – chronotherapy in the shower, Smart TV (Netflix), wireless speakers, and free Wi-Fi. There are two double bedrooms with king-size (or twin) beds, a bathroom, and a living space that includes a kitchen and dining area. Situated in the heart of the Eixample District, it needs double windows for sound insulation!
5. Penthouse Illa Del Llac
For a slightly larger group, this is a great option; the 245 m² duplex penthouse property sleeps eight across 4 bedrooms, with three bathrooms, a huge living room, kitchen, and study. The views are simply fabulous, and the huge glass wall of the apartment really makes the most of them, as does the 48m2 terrace that surrounds the apartment. The décor is modern and sleek, with a mainly monochrome finish. The complex offers some great facilities, including a swimming pool, kids swimming pool, kids’ playground, gym, and tennis courts. The apartment is slightly out of the city center, situated in Diagonal Mar.
