For a lovely hideaway in this beautiful land, The Wallawwa is a beautifully renovated country house hotel which makes the perfect choice for your Sri Lankan adventure. Situated just 15 minutes from Colombo Airport, with flights from London taking just under 11 hours, it’s 30 minutes from downtown Colombo. Sri Lanka is well-known for its timeless Buddhist ruins and with 8 Unesco World Heritage Sites you won’t be short of sites to explore, not forgetting the miles of heavenly beaches, safari tours and of course, the fascinating tea factories and estates.

Review Of The Wallawwa
The Wallawwa luxury boutique hotel is set amongst stunning, colourful tropical gardens; with 17 bedrooms, a signature Z Spa and the wonderful Verandah restaurant. The hotel is part of a small group called Teardrop Hotels; passionate about Sri Lanka, they pride themselves on providing impeccably stylish, gorgeously renovated historic properties, with outstanding service and exceptional dining. The Wallawwa was listed by Conde Nast in 2015 as one the top 100 hotels in the world, and it’s not hard to see why; its oversized suites, glorious gardens and exceptional service makes for a very special stay. The charming house colonial in style, while inside a calm, elegant, luxurious atmosphere is prevalent. The service really is first class, importantly, your needs seem to be anticipated in advance, and with a friendly smile too!

Rooms
The beautiful and spacious suites feature canopied four-poster beds with terrazzo lined bathrooms and rain showers. All the usual comforts are provided, including bathrobes, coffee machines, free Wi-Fi and minibar soft drinks. The Garden Suites include your own private veranda, while Family Suites offer very handy interconnecting rooms. However, my favourite room would have to be the Mountbatten Suite, firstly because it’s simply huge! But mainly because it includes, not only its own living space but also a private garden and very welcoming plunge pool. Really takes the hideaway factor to another level and it’s got to be the perfect place to relax after all your exploring.

Restaurant
The Verdanah offers delectable Asian-fusion a la carte cuisine. With an emphasis on fresh ingredients, many of the dishes are Sri Lankan in origin with delicious curries and seafood being popular choices, Western influenced dishes are also available from this varied menu. The continental breakfast is scrumptious, with a great selection from which to choose.

Pool & Activities
The large pool is perfect for a cooling swim, surrounded by stunning tropical gardens, you really will feel like you’re in your own rainforest hideaway. The hotel also provides a range of games to entertain you, with garden games such as cricket, football, badminton and croquet, as well as board games and even a well-stocked library. The Z Spa prides itself on rejuvenating treatments, all designed to give you back your Zen. Ideal to take a peaceful pause from exploring Sri Lanka or even to get you ready for an adventure post-flight!
When you venture out from The Wallawwa, you’ll find the nearby town of Negombo, offering a gorgeous sandy beach as well as colonial churches. Further examples of the colonial style can be found in the fort area of Colombo (Sri Lanka’s capital), which sit alongside art galleries, markets and religious buildings.

Insider Info
Ask the staff for a tour of the garden, they’ll happily show you all the produce that is grown so you can see for yourself just how fresh the delicious ingredients really are!

So, if the idea of a beautiful sanctuary, amidst a stunning adventure-packed escape appeals, then The Wallawwa really is just the place for you.
