Book A Stay

If long beachside walks along the North Norfolk coast with breathtaking views of the sea & surrounding salt marshes sound fun, if excellent food and charismatic and cozy rooms sound like your cup of tea, then look no further!

This Boutique bed and breakfast is in a Windmill which dates from the early 18th century and sits directly on the coastal path. In Medieval times Cley was one of the principal ports of East Anglia, exporting large quantities of wool and grain. The Windmill itself has a famous history featuring in MGM’s 1949 film Conspirator starring Elizabeth Taylor and was also in various scenes in The Ruth Rendell TV Mysteries.

The Cley Windmill was originally converted into a bed and breakfast accommodation in 1996 (by the father of singer James Blunt), and since 2006 it has been owned by Dr. Julian Godlee, his wife Carolyn and their four children.

The windmill offers a boutique-style bed and breakfast located close to the old quay and quaint, flint-walled cottages of the popular coastal village of Cley-next-the-Sea. The old stables and boathouses are now stylish bedrooms, whilst the Dovecote provides a self-catering retreat. Enjoy breathtaking views of the sea, surrounding salt marshes, and sun yourself in the large and tranquil walled garden.

For a special occasion, you can book the entire windmill for exclusive days or even weeks at a time, making it the ultimate venue for a private house party. For couples looking for a completely unique venue for their wedding or civil ceremony, Cley Windmill conducts ceremonies in the beautiful round Sitting Room for which they hold the wedding license.

For those staying in the Bed and Breakfast accommodation, breakfast options include a full English breakfast, kippers, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon along with cereals, fresh fruit, toast and fruit juice, and tea and coffee.

You must not miss the excellent food served up at the windmill in the evening. There is a nice choice of dishes to feast on, including succulent prawns, melt-in-the-mouth racks of lamb with tasty accompaniments, and delicious desserts, including super fresh raspberry and cream combos

With plenty to do in the area, from walks on the beach, bird-watching, and even seal-watching at Blakeney Point, this beachside boutique B&B in Norfolk will enchant you.

Don’t just take our word for it. Cley Windmill receives countless glowing reviews from their guests. Certainly, this is one of England’s most unique and loved boutique bed and breakfasts.
