Book A Stay

Having visited the Park Hyatt Zurich back in 2008, I was delighted to return for two nights at the end of 2022 to see what had changed and whether this luxury outpost of the Park Hyatt brand still held up as one of the best hotels to rest your head in Zurich.

Location

The Park Hyatt Zurich couldn’t be better located a short 5-minute walk from the main street. It is found towards the lakeside end of the main street rather than the station or Bahnhof side. The advantage of this location is that you are also a short walk from the lake, the old town, and the designer end of the main street.

If you were to walk from the station to the hotel, it would take maybe 10-15 minutes, or you could hop on one of the many trams if you have time. If you transfer from the airport to Park Hyatt Zurich, the journey is under 30 minutes.

Style & Character

The Park Hyatt Zurich is modern. It is set in a modern building with almost floor-to-ceiling windows in both the communal area and the rooms. It had not changed since our last visit and offers an airy lobby with impressively high ceilings and wide, spacious corridors. The look is contemporary and grand, and the guests seemed affluent, many dressed in designer labels. The hotel attracts business travelers as Zurich is a center for banking and commerce, and the clientele represents this. I think we were the only couple with a child during our stay.

The staff was competent and helpful, and check-in was quick and easy. A chap at reception gave us an excellent explanation of where the best Christmas markets were, and armed with this information, we were able to explore the very best Zurich has to offer in December.

Rooms

The hotel is arranged in a square ring design, so rooms either face over the internal square (still open to the sky) or they look out over the roads surrounding the hotel. Road noise is not a problem here, so there is no need for earplugs. There are no lake views at the Park Hyatt Zurich. The corridors that connect all the rooms are generous and wide with stylish if minimalist decor.

Even the base rooms here are large, with modern decor, a sofa by the window, and a large central bed. My favorite feature of these rooms is the wooden wall that separates the bathroom from the bedroom. These can be slid open so that you can have a bath and chat with your partner on the bed, or the kids can have a bath, and you can keep an eye on them from the comfort of the bed or sofa.

The bathroom has black marble sparkly tiling, and next to the bath is a wet-room shower, so you are, in effect, showering in the area you would use to get in and out of the bath. This is an excellent use of space and keeps this bathroom feeling spacious. There is also a sink with plenty of space to lay out your toiletries and a separate toilet with a separating door, so you can go while your partner can potter around the bathroom without any blushes.

Service & Facilities

As this is very much a city, the facilities are tailored to the business traveler. The main facility beyond the lounge, bar and restaurant is the Club Olympus Spa & Fitness, which offers a full suite of wellness facilities and a range of high-end treatments, each designed to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit.

The fitness center features Technogym strength training and cardio machines. Headphones, towels, chilled mineral water, and fresh fruits are available to guests on a complimentary basis.

Food & Drink

There are three main dining and drinking venues at the Park Hyatt Zurich. The lobby bar, where we spent both of our evenings at this hotel. The main bar, which has loud music and doesn’t accept children, and the main restaurant, where we ate breakfast and is where you can enjoy an evening meal.

The lobby bar was excellent, with conscientious staff and a nice selection of drinks and food. While we were staying, there was a large Christmas tree in one corner, and a glass fire flickering and glowing on one wall gave the area a nice atmosphere. We tried a couple of main dishes here, which were tasty and everything you would expect from a five-star hotel.

We also took advantage of a full breakfast in the restaurant and also via room service on our second morning (with a 7CHF charge). Unfortunately, we did not get lucky with either breakfast. While the setting in the main restaurant was nice, with large windows so that you could watch Zurich pass by, the buffet was not replenished, so there was very little choice. The waffles we ordered were so hard my son couldn’t bite through them, and our toast was black and burned. Our room service had the exact same problem with the waffles and toast, and a number of items that we ordered were missing, which was a shame.

Conclusion

We really enjoyed our stay at the Park Hyatt Zurich. The hotel was just as we remembered and I will undoubtedly return again. This is modern five star city Park Hyatt which is beautifully maintained, with large rooms and in a great location in the center of Zurich. It provides everything you would expect from a Park Hyatt with the exception of their breakfast, but I will provide feedback to the management and hopefully that will be improved by the time we deliver our next luxury concierge clients to this luxury hotel.
