Book A Hotel

In this review we investigate which is best; Four Seasons Hotel Boston Vs. One Dalton Street? Let’s start with the obvious. Both hotels belong to the Four Seasons brand and as a result, are deeply luxurious. In a nutshell, you won’t be disappointed if you stay at either. But which is the best choice?

Four Seasons Hotel Boston is a great hotel. They say: “Located alongside the Victorian brownstone homes of the Back Bay neighborhood, Four Seasons Hotel Boston is the ideal base for exploring “America’s Walking City,” with top attractions just steps away. Follow the Freedom Trail, shop the renowned boutiques of Newbury Street, or simply relax in your newly renovated room overlooking the historic Public Garden, Beacon Hill, and the gilded dome of the State House.”

But just to confuse things, Four Seasons One Dalton Street is also a great hotel. They say: “A cutting-edge 61-storey skyscraper in the heart of Back Bay, Four Seasons Hotel One Dalton Street, Boston is vibrant, modern and stylish. Stay with us to experience a new kind of urban chic, complete with a stunning Wellness Floor and the world-renowned Japanese izakaya-inspired restaurant, Zuma.”

1. Location

Four Seasons Hotel Boston is located alongside the Victorian brownstone homes of the Back Bay neighborhood, making it the ideal base for exploring “America’s Walking City.” We really like this location as it is across the street from the Public Gardens which are really attractive. Beyond these is Boston Common which offers up the most attractive side of Boston’s Back Bay.

Four Seasons One Dalton Street is not far from Four Seasons Hotel Boston, just a 10 minute walk away, so the location of either hotel shouldn’t be a dealbreaker, even though the location of Four Seasons Hotel Boston does have the edge.

2. Pool

Four Seasons Hotel Boston has a nice indoor pool on the 8th floor and One Dalton street also has a nice pool up high in the skyscraper. Both have great views but we prefer the modern style of the pool at One Dalton Street.

3. Rooms

Four Seasons Hotel Boston has rooms in a New England style with oatmeal colors and many have views over the trees and the park. Rooms at One Dalton street are slick and modern and also very nice. The main difference is the ambiance which is more urban at One Dalton Street and more rural at Four Seasons Hotel Boston. Our personal preference is the rural feel with the treetop views.

4. Dining

The Dining choices are excellent at both properties. There are lots of restaurant and bar choices at both properties and there is no clear winner in this aspect. That said, we particularly like the Bristol Restaurant and Bar at Four Seasons Hotel Boston which is well known locally. It offers giant floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the street and public garden.

5. Price

We have already detailed how to get the best discount at Four Seasons Boston, whichever property you chose. Given that both hotels are excellent, the price should definitely be taken into consideration when choosing between the hotels as the experience will be excellent at both.

In fact, the price may well be the biggest differentiator between these two hotels, over and above the ambiance (New England Vs. urban). If you can get a good deal at one of these properties and not the other, we would probably pick the least expensive.

6. Conclusion

Four Seasons Hotel Boston offers a calm classic ambiance that is hard to beat. If both hotels were the same price, this is the one we would pick. But if it were more expensive, we would be delighted to stay at One Dalton Street instead.
