Why We Love This Hotel

Giannoulis – Cavo Spada Luxury Sports & Leisure Resort & Spa is part of the Giannoulis Hotels and Resorts boutique chain. Its surrounds combine the feel of the rugged and untamed peninsula with majestic mountainous backdrops and panoramic sea views, whilst the resort itself offers complete luxury with fantastic poolside rooms and family rooms with access to more private pool options.

Best Time To Visit

The climate in Crete is one of the best in Europe, and the warmest weather is between late May and early October when it’s sunny, hot, and the water is perfect for swimming.

How To Get There

Flying to Crete from the UK is very easy as direct flights are available from many UK airports and you can be there in just under 4 hours. British Airways, Aegean Airlines, Easyjet, TUI Airways, and Jet2 all offer direct flights from London to Heraklion airport.

Location

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and understandably a most popular travel destination – well renowned for its white mountains, beautiful beaches, and traditional Mediterranean climate.

Located just over 1km from the village of Kolymbari and 22km west of Chania, Giannoulis – Cavo Spada Luxury Sports & Leisure Resort & Spa is made up of 150 accommodation units, a main freestyle lagoon-like swimming pool (simply glorious at 1700 sqm), a large reception/lobby area, four restaurants, the main bar, pool bar, mini club, boutique store, two tennis courts, and the Cavo Spada Spa.

Nearby you will find Kolymbari, a small, quiet fishing village at the foot of Crete’s Rodopou peninsula. This village houses essential shops including a pharmacy, ATM, souvenir shops, bakery, supermarket, bus stop, post office, and more. For those looking to experience dining with a local feel, small fish taverns and cafes are clustered along a beautiful stretch of beach.

The locals are primarily farmers and stockbreeders cultivating olive and citrus trees, grapevines, and vegetables. The local produce is olive oil, honey, wine, meat, and dairy products. Along the coast, fishermen provide fresh fish for locals and tourists alike.

Must-see attractions in the area include monasteries, beaches, and gorges such as the famous 13th Century Greek Orthodox Gonia Monastery (used today as a cemetery), Elafonisos beach, Falassarna Beach, the gorge of Samaria and the Balos lagoon, and Gramvousa islet.

Style & Character

The stylish design of this hotel is evident from the reception and lobby area, where the high wooden ceiling frames beams from which ornate light fixtures are suspended. The classy feel is complemented by marble floors which blend well with the comfortable seating areas.

Service & Facilities

The main pool is huge and inviting and only steps away from an idyllic pebble beach. The entire resort has a generous amount of greenery, so you can watch palm trees sway above you as you take your dip.

Beyond the pool, there is a wide range of sports available, including aqua aerobics in the pool most days, yoga, paddle boarding, and so much more. The instructors are great and speak English.

The Spa is an oasis of pleasure and pampering. Take in the calm and rejuvenate, enjoying the indoor heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, Turkish bath (Hamam), Sauna, massages, beauty treatments, and more.

Rooms

150 rooms are spacious and luxurious. Design flair, cool and relaxing colors, cozy textiles, wood furnishings, modern and tasteful decor all add to the pleasure of your stay.

Our favorite room types are the deluxe double rooms with direct pool access. These rooms have direct pool access, so you can open your sliding doors to the terrace, relax on your private sunbeds, and jump straight into the main swimming pool. We also love the deluxe sea view double room with sharing pool which has direct access to a sharing pool.

Food & Drink

The Arsenali main restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This all buffet restaurant offers an endless choice of foods, delicacies, traditional Greek dishes, and international dishes. It is worth mentioning that there are also gluten-free options. The buffet itself is set up indoors, while seating is available both indoors and on the outdoor terrace. Additional restaurants include the a la carte Azzuro restaurant and the a la carte Avra restaurant.

The Main Bar at Giannoulis – Cavo Spada Luxury Sports & Leisure Resort and Spa is open daily from 6:00 pm – 1:00 am. Once a week, there is live music which plays jazz, pop or traditional Greek music. There’s also a pool bar for lazing with a cocktail by the resort’s magnificent pool.
