I review the top 10 best luxury glamping experiences and tented glamping sites in Bali, Asia. These include Sandat Glamping Tents Bali, Bambu Indah, Escape Nomade, Firefly Cottages, Fivelements Puri Ahimsa, Galalima Tents, Menjangan Dynasty Resort, N’jung Bali Camp, Origin Uluwatu, San Giri.
Bali is known for its thick, tropical forests, volcanic hillsides, pretty beaches, coral reefs, and spiritual essence. Also known as the “Island of Gods”, there are many distinct areas; Seminyak is a chic, cosmopolitan beach resort area that appeals to luxury travelers. It also offers spectacular waves, breathtaking sunsets, and vibrant nightlife. Nusa Dua offers manicured lawns fronting world-class hotels. Ubud is the spiritual center of Bali, with views over the lurid green paddy fields.
I have compiled a list below containing the glamping experiences in Bali. Whichever you pick, Bali is a magical island, and you will have a wonderful stay.
1. Luxury Tented Villas at Menjangan Dynasty Resort
Luxury Tented Villas at Menjangan Dynasty Resort is a luxury glamping resort on the edge of West Bali National Park. We think this is the best luxury glamping experience in Bali, and probably in the world, not least because it finds itself on the shores of world-class diving and snorkeling. In fact, guests can also arrange to qualify in diving at the resort.
The Menjangan Dynasty Resort (pictured above) is an eco-friendly, tented boutique resort that is set on 16 hectares of land on a quiet peninsula beside a gorgeous white sandy beach in Northwest Bali. This is ultra-luxurious glamping in a natural and isolated position. Yet, it offers an array of brilliant facilities include an all-day dining restaurant, Pasir Putih, an infinity swimming pool, a spa, and a dive club and water sports center.
The tented rooms and villas maintain the charm and mood of luxurious safari accommodation with natural materials and muted colors, plus the odd, quirky touch here and there. There are 24 Beach Camp Tents as well as 2 stunning one-bedroom Cliff Tent Villas and 2 two-bedroom Cliff Tent Villas as well. The Beach Camp Tents are 39.5 m² and include a large decking area with day bed and loungers. The villas are 61m² and 82m² and even include a private infinity plunge pool. Combine the feeling of sleeping in the great outdoors with only canvas between you and the stars, with flat-screen TVs, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi, and you get the idea. There is even a luxury bathroom with a hand-painted tiled floor, a monsoon shower, a well-lit vanity unit with washbasin and mirror, and a toilet with a bamboo screen for privacy.
A seriously impressive infinity swimming pool is set right on the cliff edge, and there is also a beachside swimming pool surrounded by bamboo cabanas and beanbags on the white sandy beach for the more sedate moments of your visit. The turquoise sea is calm and inviting, perfect for kayaking, canoeing, or stand-up paddleboarding. The 5-star PADI dive resort center and water sports center is perfect for year-round professionally-guided scuba diving and snorkeling excursions and the reefs around Menjangan Island are only a half-hour boat ride from the resort, where spectacular marine life is just waiting to be explored.
Finally, the spa can be found in the bay with superb views and plenty of treatments to choose from. Most of the resort (with the exception of the tents themselves) offers rooms without walls, so you feel very grounded and connected to nature during your stay. It’s exactly what you want from one of the world’s best glamping resorts.
2. Sandat Glamping Tents
Sandat Glamping Tents offer a low-key eco-resort built by local craftsmen set between jungle and rice fields in a beautifully maintained lush garden.
If you choose to book uber-luxurious tents, you will really feel (and hear!) the nature all around you. The jungle comes alive at night so if you are a light sleeper, bring your earplugs! The tent itself can only be described as amazing. The beds and bathrooms are deeply stylish, and although there are no TVs, Wi-Fi coverage is excellent. The tents and lumbungs all offer an individual pool and veranda with complete privacy for your very own slice of jungle luxury.
Ubud is just 10 minutes away by free shuttle, where you can visit the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, have a massage, or eat at one of the many excellent restaurants. Sandat Glamping Tents also sits about an hour from the capital, Denpasar.
Sandat Glamping Tents are a unique and glamorous way to camp. A way to enjoy nature without missing out on any of the luxuries of a five-star resort. A unique and enchanting way to see another side of the magical island of Bali.
Sandat Glamping also features in my best luxury wilderness resorts in Asia.
3. Spiritual Glamping at Fivelements Puri Ahimsa
Spiritual Glamping at Fivelements Puri Ahimsa is located near Ubud and around the sacred Ayung River, which carves its way through the jungle valley. Each of the nine tented suites has open verandas overlooking the river’s swirling currents and offering spiritual enlightenment. Private bamboo enclosures house a large open-air bathtub for romantic bathing. Other modern amenities include air-conditioning, a sound system with an iPod dock, a Wi-Fi hairdryer, and a generous array of toiletries completing the luxury glamping experience.
4. The Bamboo Eco Cottage at Firefly Cottages
The Bamboo Eco Cottage at Firefly Cottages is our least expensive glamping option in Bali. This bamboo cottage is a secluded eco-retreat, down a quiet footpath nestled in the rice fields and only a five-minute walk to central Ubud. Open-air basket weave bedrooms with mini-loft lead to the modern elegant bathroom and outdoor living area. This a truly unique Bali experience.
There’s no air conditioning, but the bamboo walls allow the cool breeze to filter in to keep you comfortable while the mosquito net keeps the mosquitoes away. A complimentary cell phone is provided for you upon check-in so you can have access to the complete menu, and room service and Wi-Fi connection are included.
This bamboo-roofed, rather than a tented resort, is the closest you will come to experiencing natural Bali without modern distractions. At night you will see fireflies and hear the rushing river, crickets, and the distant sounds of the temple.
5. Origin Uluwatu
Origin Uluwatu offers a collection of 14 luxury tents ensconced in lush tropical gardens, Origin Uluwatu is the first tented resort of its kind in Bali’s famed Bukit.
Minutes away from Padang Padang, Bingin, and Dreamland beaches, Origin Uluwatu features Ember Restaurant & Charcoal Bar, Origin Spa, and a dedicated geodesic dome kitted out for children.
Architects studiogoto collaborated with tent designer Escape Nomade to create the perfect accommodations for the Origin traveler with interiors and furnishing carefully designed and selected by Insitu and Studiogoto. The tents to pick are the ones with private pools!
6. Escape Nomade
Escape Nomade is located in the awe-inspiring rice fields outside of Ubud. Enjoy high tea, a picnic lunch, or a luxury dinner inside one of their incredible tents. These very special tents are used at glamping resorts all around the world.
These classic designer tents range from 9 m2 – 150 m2 (97- 1615 ft²) and come with insulation, platforms, wood and glass doors, and a choice of roof designs. The fabrics are impervious to water, mildew, and UV exposure, and frames are galvanized mild steel with marine paint and are designed to last 20 years or more.
The lifestyle here is unique, open-plan, amidst nature, calm, elegant, and simple.
7. San Giri
Although San Giri is located in Bali, their tents feel African. This glampsite can be found in the mountains of Jatiluwih, a UNESCO World Heritage site. These jungly hills provide some of the best hiking on the island of Bali.
San Giri consists of comfortable African-style Glamping Tents, 3 Deluxe Tents, and 5 Grand Deluxe Tents, each with en-suite bathrooms and a large private terrace. Enjoy marvelous views of dense mountain ranges from each tent.
San Giri’s Pakis Restaurant will provide everything you need to eat and is a cozy and idyllic setting serving Balinese and Western cuisine. They use homegrown and locally sourced produce for many of their freshly prepared dishes, including mountain vegetables, herbs, and rice and bread.
8. Galalima Tents
Camping or glamping is one of the best ways to get in touch with nature, but not everyone likes sleeping in flimsy tents with no modern facilities. At Galalima, tents are luxurious with unique modern interior designs for guests to enjoy the wilderness in a safe, luxurious, eco-friendly environment.
Every tent has a custom-made double bed, sofa swings on the balcony, a fan, comfortable bathrobes, and more.
There are four types of tented suites at Galalima Tents. Selako Suites are the first tent you’ll see when you walk down the stairs. In terms of size, this tent is smaller than the other ones, but it is built on top of a higher hill, closer to the temple. These tents have a waterfall view or a jungle view.
The Apit Yeh Suite tents are a little bigger than the Selako Suite and have a wider balcony & offer more space to chill inside the tent. Open up all curtains to see the stars at night. Again, these tents have a waterfall view or a jungle view. Galalima Tukad Suites are the best option for a family or 4 adults and offer 68 m2, a double bed with a river view. The Carik Suites are the same size as the Selako Suite. However, the Carik Suite has a clearer view of the waterfall.
This glamping experience offers all the extraordinary natural beauty of nature and a traditional way of life in Bali.
9. Bambu Indah
Located a 15-minute drive from central Ubud, Bambu Indah is an eco-luxury boutique hotel and glamping experience which offers panoramic views of mountains, rice paddies, and hills.
This retreat has a hint of hippy crossed with sacred Asia, with intricately-carved antique buildings combined with more modern designs. These buildings are hidden in a valley of palm trees and look out over a lush landscape of rice fields and springs.
There’s a spa behind ab organic garden, a movie room as there are no TVs in the tents, and a riverside deck with cushions and swing chairs.
Rooms are created from 100-year-old Javanese bridal houses made from teak wood or are bamboo treehouses, with views of the gardens, pool, or rice fields from the outdoor terrace. Some are reached by hanging wood bridges that cross streams. All have private bathrooms, air-conditioning, minifridges, and Wi-Fi access, but no TVs.
There are two restaurants with organic, locally sourced, and homemade food, all served up in stunning bamboo buildings with open sides. The hotel offers yoga lessons upon request.
10. N’jung Bali Camp
Njung Bali Camp is a hidden gem in Kintamani far away from the stresses of modern life. This glamping experience is located at the edge of the Batur Lake, with a view of Mount Abang and Terunyan village.
This glampsite offers simple luxuries combining your stay with nature, so you can enjoy another side of Bali. The teepees here are near the lake and have a rustic theme. They are made from eco-friendly material, and some float on the edge of a Lake, where you can see hundreds of red fishes swimming about underneath the construction.
If you prefer a tent, their tents are 2m x 1,8m square and come complete with pillows, blankets, and mattresses. Facilities include Wi-Fi, sharing kitchen, BBQ equipment, and a campfire where you can under a canopy of a million stars. From here, you can trek at Mount Batur and Mount Abang, or just relax by the lake.
