Book A Hotel

What girl doesn’t love a handbag? But the amount you can fit in a handbag is limited by the weight one shoulder can endure. This is why a stylish designer backpack or rucksack is such a great idea for the luxury traveler.

Backpacks maintain your stylish look whilst not straining either one or other of your shoulders, plus they leave your hands free for pulling your case, roll-on, or simply holding onto your passport or your duty-free shopping.

The problem is that finding a stylish backpack isn’t easy. You want one that is both practical but also looks good. I suggest avoiding those horrendous canvas monstrosities that you might have considered buying in your late teens for your travels around Asia or Australia.

Instead, now that you are a luxury traveler, you want something beautiful, leather, with plenty of pockets and with a guarantee of quality.

I have therefore picked the top 10 best designer backpacks in the world that will keep you looking gorgeous and also offer a practical way to carry your laptop and other essentials when you travel.

1. Aruku

Ever found yourself wondering why you’re always juggling multiple bags when one would be so much more practical? Well, I’ve found the perfect solution for any busy, working, and traveling woman.

Aruku’s beautiful leather backpacks are designed by women for women and are perfectly organized with a padded laptop pocket and easy access, secure phone pocket, as well as plenty of space and compartments for everything else.

They believe the inside is just as important as the outside. That’s why our leather backpacks have compartments for your laptop, tablet, phone, keys, and more. So when you’re going to the gym, commuting to the office, making that all-important business meeting, and going out with friends, you’ll have the bag you need to see you through your day.

The bags are designed in London and handmade in the same factory as other well-known luxury brands, so the quality is incredible, and because they only sell directly through their website (so remove the retail middle man mark-up costs), they are also great value at only £279 GBP.

If you are looking for a backpack that ticks all the boxes, a backpack to love and treasure, the Aruku backpack is what you’ve been looking for.

2. Smythson

The Smythson of Bond Street has a new addition to their Burlington collection – their own backpack. Both practical and stylish, this bag cleverly combines luxury and functionality, securing its ‘must-have’ status.

The backpack comes in jet black and is made in soft deerskin with a cotton/nylon lining, silver hardware, and zip-top closure. It has a super exterior pocket with zip closure and two internal slip pockets along with adjustable shoulder straps.

While this is a great backpack and a superb luxury brand, we don’t think this is the best backpack purely because of the price. We prefer the Aruku backpack, which is significantly cheaper and matches or even beats the quality of the Smythson of Bond Street backpack. The price of the Burlington Backpack? £895 GBP.

3. Mulberry

We love Mulberry and they now produce a backpack as well as handbags. Their products are actually produced in the same factory and offer the same quality as the Aruku backpack.

Their Mandarin Orange Heavy Grain backpack is one of the best of the bunch at £895 GBP. This zipped backpack offers function and form in an equal partnership. Two zipped compartments offer a convenient way to carry around your necessities, while the printed racing stripes offer up a subtle dose of Mulberry personality. It has a nice logo printed over the top and is a lovely piece. Is it worth the £895 GBP price tag? Only you can decide.

4. Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton is such a well known brand and it lasts well. Their backpack is very different from the others we have featured, so is the price, at a costly £1,890 GBP.

The Lockme Backpack is a sleek backpack with a youthful allure. It has a shiny silver-colored Louis Vuitton logo and has been crafted from fine-grained calfskin with a particularly soft hand. This lightweight daily bag offers good capacity and several carry options: by the top handle for an on-point look, on a single strap over the shoulder, or in classic backpack style. The LV turn-lock adds a discreet signature.

This is undoubtedly one of the most original designer backpacks available, and its sleek black look with the shiny look makes is one of the best-looking designer backpacks too.

5. Burberry

Burberry bags are always awesome and some of the best designer bags and backpacks on the market! Some have intricate and unexpected finishes, others are big shoppers. We really like one of their backpacks called the Horseferry Print Coated Canvas Backpack.

Priced at £1050 GBP, this modern black or white limited availability backpack has been produced in a water-resistant coated canvas inspired by protective clothing worn at sea. The Italian-made design features Horseferry print and smooth lambskin trims, but I prefer the leather or calfskin finishes which is why I haven’t placed this backpack in position one.

6. Gucci

This Gucci backpack, the Ophidia GG Flora small backpack is utterly unique! Costing £1,230 GBP, this gorgeous backpack is floral but with a classic Gucci background. Iconic, different, and very Gucci, what’s not to like?

7. MCM

The MCM Backpack is carefully crafted from Visetos coated canvas. This alluring option is embellished with subtle stud detailing at its sides for a look that’s spirited yet sophisticated, with a total of five pockets – plus an internal laptop sleeve.

This versatile bag offers ample space for all your belongings and is smart and stylish with a leather top handle and adjustable shoulder straps. At £625 GBP, it is one of the cheaper handbags in our top 10 best backpack selection.

8. Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney likes chains on her Falabella backpack, and her latest backpack has used a signature silver diamond-cut chain and snap button fastening, dual compartments, and a zip pocket. This backpack puts the “S” in stylish, and instead of being leather, it is 67% polyurethane and 33% polyester with a recycled lining of 100% ECONYL® polyamide. It looks like leather but it isn’t.

9. Fendi

Fendi has a huge silver metal upside down F above their latest backpack, so you are in no doubt who designed it. They call the “F” a metal handle shaped like the new Fendi logo, but it looks more for show than for practicality. Adjustable shoulder straps detach, allowing it to be used as a handbag. It also has drawstring fastening and a flap with a padlock along with a keyring tag. The whole bag is made of black tumbled Cruise leather with gold-finish metalware.

10. Balenciaga

Balenciaga has produced what they call an everyday printed leather backpack for £950 GBP. This designer backpack is spacious and polished enough to take to the office. It’s been made in Italy from leather stamped with the brand’s logo and has plenty of room inside for a laptop, gym kit, and makeup essentials.
