At this month’s American Airlines employee question and answer session with senior executives, the airline’s employees were told “We do love New York, I know it doesn’t seem like that with what we’ve done.”

In a nutshell, American has reduced its capacity into New York. Why? Apparently “runway construction at New York JFK” and “MAX groundings”…

View from the Wing suggests that these excuses are just that. Excuses with little basis. You can read more of his thoughts here. Conversely, some argue that the increased profits at American Airlines shows that they are making many good decisions. And those include the reduction in flights related to New York, a city they say they love.

For now, it looks like they won’t be increasing their emphasis on New York, but it will be interesting to see if they increase their slots at New York’s airports once the MAX planes take to the skies again. Then we will see just how much American really does love New York…
