Book A Stay

There are very few drawbacks with luxury travel but sometimes it can become a bit same-y so I love something a bit unique and this is exactly the case with the stunning, newly-opened, Lao Poet Hotel in Laos. Billed as an urban jungle sanctuary, it’s rather a special place.

Location

This urban retreat lies in the heart of Vientiane tucked down a quiet side street. Vientiane is the capital of Laos and is a stunning city with a unique blend of French-colonial architecture and glittering Buddhist temples. It is a laid-back place with endless friendly cafes, wide boulevards and the historic old quarter that is easily walkable. There is much to see in the vicinity too and the hotel will happily arrange a private driver city day tour so you don’t miss a thing. Pick from sights including Buddha Park (Xieng Khuan), That Luang – Vientiane Great Stupa, Patuxai Victory Monument, Vientiane Morning Market, Wat Ho Phra Keo, Lao National Museum, Wat Si Muang and Wat Si Saket.

Style & Character

The hotel is elegant, comfortable and has echoes of a bygone era of the 1930s. It’s bursting with originality and feels like an urban oasis with rich colours and lots of botanicals – both real and as décor! There’s a wonderfully romantic backstory too; the land where the hotel now stands was originally lived on by a famous local poet, hence the name.

Service & Facilities

The rooftop infinity pool is huge! After a day exploring Vientiane there can be few better places to head than poolside to enjoy a relaxing dip and take in the epic Mekong and city views. Head back at sunset for the most amazing colourful vistas; the swimming pool lit by night is quite a sight too. There’s a fitness centre opening up soon but for now get your exercise walking the local streets. The service is as special as the hotel itself, everyone who works here has clearly fallen a bit in love with the hotel and genuinely can’t wait to welcome guests and give them a marvellous stay here.

Rooms

There are 55 rooms and suites in this boutique hotel. Choose from an Urban Classic Room or the slightly larger Urban Deluxe Room with its beautiful jungle artwork. Both room types have views across the city and select rooms include a bath tub too, so make sure to get in your request if you like a soak. If you feel like treating yourself, upgrade to a huge, exclusive Poet Suite. It boasts a spacious bathroom with a tub and the most impressive city views that take in some of Vientiane national treasures.

Food & Drink

There is a fabulous urban restaurant on the second floor but if it’s views you’re after, head back up to the rooftop where you’ll find a trendy rooftop bar and restaurant; the place to be in Vientiane after sunset.
