Book A Hotel

We have taken two river cruises, one with APTouring and one with AMA Waterways. We reviewed our AMA Waterways AmaSerena tulip time cruise in 2016 and our APTouring AmaVerde Springtime In Holland & Belgium cruise in 2018.

In this article, we write a quick comparison between these two river cruises and discuss which was best. Both trips were very enjoyable and similar, with an almost identical set of stops at an almost identical time of year. Make sure you book your cruises, hotels and flights via our luxury travel concierge to get free upgrades, breakfast and credit.

AmaSerena was a newer boat and had the major advantage of cabins which did not show up any apparent loud creaks. AmaSerena, being a newer ship, had a more stylish and contemporary décor with a more generous profusion of flowers.

AmaVerde had the more spacious cabin and we particularly enjoyed in the French balcony area and would recommend booking this room.

AmaVerde’s silver butler service was pleasant but probably not worth paying extra for in our opinion.

AmaVerde’s all inclusive drinks were excellent, especially a G and T before dinner, and an evening drink to enjoy during the entertainment. AmaSerena just had drinks with meals in 2016 which was a major disadvantage.

Although the cruise director on the AmaVerde was good, John Riley, the cruise director on Ama Serena was outstanding and couldn’t be bettered!

In our opinion, the AmaSerena experience could not be beaten and was a slightly more luxury experience than the AmaVerde. That said, this was all taken account of in the price, as the AmaSerena was the more expensive cruise. I would happily book onto both again and would highly recommend Holland at tulip time. It is not to be missed!
