information about this post

From the moment you drive down the exclusive private access road on the Masai Mara heading to the luxurious Mara Engai Lodge you know you have found somewhere special, somewhere that epitomizes what it means to safari in luxury; a stunning location, stunning surroundings, and beautiful accommodation.

Location

The Mara Engai Lodge is located in the Siria Escarpment, 1000ft above the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. The closest park gate, the Oloololo Gate, is just 20km from the property. The Mara Triangle is the North-Western part of the Masai Mara National Reserve and is less visited and less crowded than the rest of the Masai Mara and often has many more game animals grazing on the plains. All the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, African elephant, African buffalo, and black rhinoceros) can be found in the Masai Mara. The nearest airstrip; Serena Airstrip, is just 30-35 minutes from the Lodge, and transfers are included.

Style & Character

Your home for your stay is gorgeous, spacious tented accommodation nestled within the pristine Kenyan ravine forest and elevated to give the very best views of the Mara Triangle and the Great Wildebeest Migration route. The tents are rustic, very comfortable, and beautifully furnished with little luxuries that you’d expect at a five-star hotel, such as waterfall showers, slippers, and bathrobes, but most importantly, you have a stunning private viewing deck that offers awe-inspiring views over the Masai Mara.

Service & Facilities

Of course, the main reason for your stay is to feast your eyes on the spectacular wildlife that calls the Masai Mara their home. The Lodge uses the specially adapted 6×6 Pinzgauer vehicles, which have six wheels and are high off the ground, making them perfect for tackling the off-road terrain and allowing excellent viewing opportunities of Masai Mara’s rich Wilderness Triangle. As well as the game tries, you can add lots of extra activities to enrich your stay, such as walking safaris, a quad bike safari, a cultural Maasai trip, or, for something really memorable, how about a hot air balloon safari right over the Mara; breath-taking.

The welcome makes you feel as if you are staying with family. Nothing is too much trouble, and the constant thoughtful touches really make your stay.

Rooms

There are just 20 tents on this intimate site, 15 of them are suitable for families, so make sure to request one if required. Your tent includes king-sized, deeply comfortable beds. This is most certainly not slumming it. You have full ensuite facilities with twin vanities as well as a rainfall shower, and your amenities include a suspended fan, 24-hour security, and complimentary Wi-Fi in public spaces. The views are either of the Masai Mara or the ravine forest or if you’re really lucky, and make sure this is what you request, both!

Food & Drink

It’s wonderfully reassuring to know that when you return from a hot day out on game drives, a delicious, home-cooked meal is waiting for you, and that is exactly the case at Mara Engai Lodge, where the talented onsite chefs create delectable fine dining dishes all prepared with fresh produce from their own organic garden. Your meals are accompanied by fine wines, and there’s always something to satisfy the sweetest tooth, too! Dine with the other guests in the spacious restaurant and soak up the panoramic views, or dine within the intimacy of your own private deck or even al fresco in the bush, a truly unforgettable experience that will stay with you long after you return home.
