Joining a hotel loyalty program is one of the easiest ways to get free nights or free upgrades at luxury hotels. Over the next few months, I will review the loyalty programs of Starwood, Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, and IHG hotels. We have already reviewed the advantages of the Leading Hotels Of The World Standard and Unlimited membership.
However, today, in my series of cheap luxury travel secrets, I wanted to focus on IHG Rewards Club ‘Friends & Family’ rates, which enable you to book Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, Indigo, InterContinental, Staybridge Suites, and Candlewood Suites hotels at a discounted rate.
What is IHG Friends & Family?
The ‘Friends & Family’ rate is aimed at people who are friends or relatives of hotel employees. However, IHG has not stopped or kicked up about the general public using this discounted rate either, and links to these rates are widely available on forums like Flyertalk – here is a link to IHG friends & family discounted rates that I use.
What Saving Can I Make With A IHG Friends & Family Discounted Rate
The Friends & Family deals are very good value. Just take a look at the savings we made on the Intercontinental Park Lane in London which we’ve reviewed along with their wonderful club lounge (pictured above):
Date: 22-23 April, friends & Family Rate is £264.38 GBP. This compares to a “Best Available” rate of £311 GBP.
This is a saving of 15% and is a very good deal for this hotel. You will have to use the link above to investigate rates at your preferred IHG hotel, but it is likely that the savings will be significant. Always bear in mind that these rates do not enable changes or refunds and they do not earn IHG Rewards Club points or stay credits.
