The last time we arrived at Ha Noi airport, it was 7 pm on a Sunday and we had a long journey ahead of us to get to our boat at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ha Long Bay. We were jet-lagged and on our first visit to Vietnam. Emerging from the baggage claim, we were eager to find our driver. We had booked directly with the cruise company so what could possibly go wrong? We were joining their boat so they couldn’t let us down, right? You probably know what happened next.
Speaking no Vietnamese and with no access to local phone networks, we started looking around for someone who could help and maybe contact our driver. Suddenly everyone was a taxi driver with a big grin on his face. Luckily for us, a nearby travel agency agreed to phone the cruise company, which turned out to be closed. After kicking our heels at Ha Noi Airport arrivals for a couple of hours, we eventually made it to Ha Long but it was not a good journey over unmade roads in a small Toyota with no seatbelts. Have you seen the driving in Vietnam? White knuckle doesn’t do it justice. We were frayed when we arrived at our hotel in Ha Long after midnight.
Imagine our relief then when we discovered that our favorite professional driver company Blacklane is now available at Ha Noi Airport. Returning this September, as leaders of a small escorted tour group, for what we had billed as a luxury tour of Vietnam, the transfers were our biggest concern. This time, we trusted our go-to chauffeur company and kept our fingers crossed.
Well, we needn’t have worried. In all, we had around 20 transfers booked on a complicated itinerary with various guests arriving on different flights, we used vehicles ranging from the economy car (Toyota Camry) to business car (Mercedes E class) and luxury van. All drivers arrived on time with the correct type of car. Our guests were impressed by the English spoken by the drivers and the standard and cleanliness of the vehicles. Nobody missed a flight or even a heartbeat this time. Even better, the prices we paid Blacklane were lower than those quoted by local travel agents, transfer companies, or the cruise line itself!
Contact me for a Blacklane promotional discount code and you will save €10 EUR/USD/GBP on your first ride with Blacklane. (I receive a €10 EUR/USD/GBP voucher too).
