Why Collect SPG Points?

Because they can be converted into all the airline miles outlined below. I collect SPG points to stay at the JW Marriott in Venice. If I book 5 nights here, I can book 4 nights and get the 5th free which costs 180,000 Marriott points (60K SPG) in mid-August. I could book this for cash and it would cost me 1,807€ (356.4€ per night). This values my Marriott points at around 1,807/180,000 = 0.0116€ or £0.01 and my SPG points at £0.03.
