In this trip report, I review my flight on a KLM Cityhopper in European Economy Southampton To Amsterdam. Usually, I fly around Europe on British Airways flights in European Business Class, but this time our trip was to join a river cruise, so the flight we took was on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.

This is not the first time I have flown KLM. When I was a child, I lived in The Netherlands, so KLM was, in fact, the airline I flew on most frequently. My father was a “Flying Dutchman” which was their frequent flyer scheme back then, and I had hundreds of shiny KLM badges from all my trips with them.

More recently we flew and reviewed KLM long-haul in Business Class and I have to admit that I was hugely impressed by my KLM experience. On this short hop, the experience was equally good, Even though Short-Haul Economy can’t be compared to Long-Haul Business Class, I would go out of my way and pay extra miles to fly both Short and long-haul on KLM.

Why?

This flight was on a brand new Embraer 175 plane. The plane was clean and compact. Seats were 2×2 in Economy and Business. Unlike European Business Class on British Airways, your seating looked to be identical on KLM in European Business as in the Economy section, although I would have expected the food to be slightly better.

The air hosts were excellent and we were thrilled to be offered a moist Madeira cake (going back was a tasty egg and salad wrap) and a drink, even though we were only travelling in Economy. This is a vast improvement on British Airways which has removed it’s Economy food and drink altogether. The drink could even be alcoholic; beer and wine were available along with a choice of soft drinks and coffee and tea.

Best Seats In The KLM Cabin

To be honest, there is little to choose between the seats in the cabin; I like to be further towards the front so that I can get on and off the plane faster.

Overall this flight experience was brilliant for short-haul.
