Delta’s new Business Class seat and the airline’s Seattle lounge took top honors at 2017 The International Yacht & Aviation Awards in Venice, Italy, last week. The Delta One suite earning the prestigious Crystal Cabin Award in the coveted Cabin Concepts category at the 2017 Aircraft Interiors Expo in Germany in April.
The Delta One suite is part of the airline’s multi-billion dollar investment that includes a cabin modernization program featuring new seats, seatback entertainment systems, high-capacity overhead bins, access to Wi-Fi on nearly all flights, complimentary meals in the Main Cabin on select flights, upgraded free Main Cabin snacks, chef-curated meals in Delta One, a seasonal wine program and more.
But does this mean that the Delta One suite is better than United Polaris or American Super Diamond? These improved business class offerings include upgraded business class soft and hard products with improved seats, food, and service. A quick comparison shows that Deltas’ new Delta One Business Class (pictured above) is a handsome, walled cocoon, which can currently be experienced on its Airbus A350 and will be rolled out on its Boeing 777. The low doors give a decent level of privacy, although their low height means you will still be able to see taller passengers as they walk past. United airlines has launched its swish and rounded United Polaris Business Class Pods which are laid out in a staggered arrangement in the cabin. The walled compartments are not massively high but are also very stylish. Seattle Delta Sky Club Review
The Seattle Delta Sky Club opened in the fall 2016 and won the Airport Lounge category — a first for Delta.
In the new Seattle Delta Sky Club, unique amenities keep travelers plugged in, comfortable and relaxed. From the first-class view to the local food and beverages, the club is a showcase of what Seattle and Delta have to offer.
Exclusive features include:
- Spa services from Asanda Spa Lounge, featuring seated chair massages with guided meditation audio/video by Deepak Chopra in addition to a full line of spa and wellness products for purchase from Comfort Zone and Stay Well
- A partnership with acclaimed Chef Ethan Stowell, who will provide locally inspired fare exclusive to this location
- Beecher’s “World’s Best” Mac & Cheese, made with a combination of its Flagship and Just Jack cheeses, available on the buffet
- A 60-foot suspended sculpture created by Paul Vexler and a Pike Place-inspired pixelated mural by Craig Alan McMillan
- Large windows with View Dynamic Glass – energy efficient, intelligently tinting windows that keep the Club temperature and sunlight at optimal levels, eliminating glare and the need for blinds or shades
Of course, Delta is not the only one to up their game. United Polaris lounges offer speciality cocktails, comfortable seating areas, slick showers, relaxation areas, excellent food, fast Wi-Fi and a stylish ambiance. United will open nine Polaris Lounges around the world in Houston, Newark, San Francisco, Dulles, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, London, and Tokyo.
American Airlines is also improving its lounges. American Airlines Flagship Lounge at JFK has had an overhaul, with the airline introducing brand-new lounges in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Philadelphia.
So to answer my original question, is award-winning Delta One the best American Business Class Airline Seat? Not in my opinion, largely due to their slow rollout, which means, at least for now, you are unlikely to experience their new Delta One Business Class seats when flying long-haul. My vote is American, with the Delta One Suite probably being better but slowly rolled out, so on most routes, American is your best bet.
