Book A Hotel

Imagine a view of beautiful beaches lined with coconut palms, sunlight sparkling on the Indian Ocean, and a private pavilion in a luxury resort with your own butler on hand to tend your every need. If this sounds like your idea of paradise, then you should probably consider a stay at Serene Pavilions in Wadduwa on the west coast of Sri Lanka. Awarded “Best Boutique Resort in Sri Lanka” in 2010, it’s private, relaxed and romantic – ideal for honeymooning couples or those who simply want to get away from it all and enjoy some serious pampering in beautiful surroundings. You can fly direct to Colombo with Sri Lankan from Heathrow, or take a connecting flight from other UK airports with various airlines including Etihad, Qatar Airways and KLM. Serene Pavilions is located just over an hour and a half’s drive from Colombo airport.

Resort
Created on the site of an old coconut plantation, Serene Pavilions offers twelve luxurious private villas where guests can enjoy peace and quiet in stunning surroundings, including a beautiful garden with palm trees, tropical flowers and lotus ponds. With a fabulous pool, dining area, bar and onsite spa, you need never venture outside the gates or indeed lift a finger, as the attentive staff including your own personal butler are on hand to take care of everything for you. First class service is taken very seriously here! Amid the gorgeous natural beauty of the Sri Lankan coast, a combination of local and Balinese architecture sets the scene for a perfect tropical paradise.

Pavilions
Eight ocean pavilions offer spacious accommodation over two floors, with a bedroom boasting a king size four poster bed with pillow menu, a marble bathroom with Jacuzzi and separate shower and an elegant living and dining area opening out onto a sundeck. Outside, there are fabulous views of the Indian Ocean, a private plunge pool and direct access to the beach. Each villa also boasts Wi-Fi access, a flat-screen TV and DVD player (a broad selection of DVDs is available on request) and 24 hour private butler service. Garden pavilions feature all the same amenities as the ocean pavilions, but instead of direct access to the beach, these villas enjoy their own private garden area instead. Room Tips – ocean pavilions offer the best views, but garden pavilions are more private.

Restaurant & Bar
Local, international and fusion cuisine are all on offer at Serene Pavilions, using, as far as possible, the freshest ingredients sourced from local markets. With the resort being right by the sea, the fish is something of a speciality. In fact, if the fancy takes you, you can even choose your own fish from the local market and have the chef prepare it for you! The Pavilions restaurant is perfectly positioned to catch the best of the sunset as you dine, but if you prefer to eat in the privacy of your own villa or even on the beach, this can be arranged. Also boasting spectacular sunset views is the Amritha Bar, a lovely relaxing spot where you can sit and enjoy a drink or two while looking out over the ocean.

Pool & Activities
The large and very beautiful swimming pool invites you to while away your days lazing on a sun lounger beside it with the occasional cooling dip, while the fabulous submerged Jacuzzi beds are a must-try. For the ultimate in pampering, the spa offers a range of treatments from therapists trained in Ayurvedic methods – they’ll even come to your pavilion if you prefer. The Clubhouse area boasts a hair salon, nail spa, boutique and jewellery store, while elsewhere at the resort you will find the peaceful reading room and a tennis court. If you can bear to tear yourself away from the resort, you can enjoy a wide variety of watersports, shopping in Colombo or take in some history at Galle Fort.

Insider Info
This place is very private and perfect for honeymooning couples, but if you really want to feel as though you have paradise practically to yourselves, consider travelling in the low season, when there are fewer tourists around.

A stay at Serene Pavilions will leave you feeling incredibly pampered and no doubt longing for another opportunity to watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean!
