United Airlines has transformed its existing Business First product into the brand new United Polaris Pod concept named after the brightest star in the Ursa Minor constellation. You can read our flight review of United Polaris Business Class, and you can see new Polaris seat pictures in the scroller above.

There is a brand new international Business Class seat (pictured below), which is made up of a United Polaris forward-facing pod. The seats can be converted into 180-degree fully flat beds measuring six foot six inches. The Polaris pods are arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, ensuring direct aisle access for all customers.

Each seat or pod has been custom-designed in partnership with Acumen Design Associates and Priestman Goode, with aircraft seat manufacturer Zodiac tasked with construction.

If you want to fly in the new United Polaris seat, the first ones were available on United’s B777-300ER. The carrier’s B787-10 and A350-1000 aircraft also fly with the new product, while the United is looking to retrofit its B767-300s and B777-200s as well.

The new seat comes with power outlets, USB charging ports, reading lights, noise-canceling headphones, and a premium amenity kit filled with Cowshed products.

United’s current Business First product is most commonly arranged in a squashed eight-across seating arrangement – with the exception of newer aircraft, such as the B787 Dreamliners, which feature a more comfortable 2-2-2 configuration.

The new Polaris pod seat matches similar products on offer from US rivals, including the Delta Air Lines new Business Class suite and the high-quality business class seating launching from American Airlines with similar configurations.

Along with the new seat, United Polaris customers can expect a pre-departure beverage and gourmet chocolate. Meal services have been developed in partnership with The Trotter Project and its chefs, including Bill Kim from the acclaimed Chicago restaurants Urbanbelly, bellyQ, and Belly Shack. Made-to-order ice cream sundaes, as well as a fully stocked dessert cart, are available throughout the flight. Long-haul flights also provide mid-flight snacks such as lobster macaroni and cheese.

United has also introduced a new United Polaris lounge concept in a new facility at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The lounge offers custom-designed chairs, private daybeds, shower facilities, and chef-inspired hot meals. The United Polaris lounges are also available in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, New York/Newark, Washington Dulles, Tokyo Narita, Hong Kong, and London Heathrow.
