When the pace of modern life overwhelms you and the thought of a tropical paradise makes your heart leap a little, why not go somewhere where as well as relaxing in the sun, you also get to nurture your body and mind. Nautilus Boutique Hotel in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica is a beautiful boutique hotel that allows you to do just that; a virtually untouched landscape with pristine beaches awaits you, with daily yoga and meditation classes and an organic, vegetarian restaurant. British Airways flies direct from London Gatwick to San José (the main airport in Costa Rica) in under 11 hours, the hotel is then a 3-hour drive or you can transfer via a local airport.

Hotel
This really is a stretch of paradise, with miles of quiet coastline and beautiful vegetation in the grounds, the hotel is just steps away from the sandy beach. Facilities include a stunning, serene pool area, a yoga studio and a restaurant. The hotel is family-owned which is very apparent as the service is just lovely; very personal and very friendly, it really makes this place feel extra special. This is an eco-friendly resort and sustainable practices are important here and are built firmly into how they run things.

Rooms
We are really talking villas and not rooms! Think a spacious suite with everything you need for a comfortable stay; a separate bathroom with marble countertops and a rain shower, a living area, a fully equipped designer kitchen, a bedroom that includes a king or full-sized bed with 100% organic Egyptian cotton sheets, plus a private terrace with a hammock. The décor is designed to continue the relaxed zen-like mood and is calm, simple, fresh, and chic. Organic bath products are provided, as are all the modern amenities you would expect including cable TV, Wi-Fi, safe and air-conditioning. There are one-bed villas that sleep 3 or two-bed villas that can sleep 5. This is no typical hotel; you have much more space than you would normally expect but yet you can still benefit from daily housekeeping, room service, and many other services that help make your stay relaxing.

Restaurant
The hotel restaurant, Olam, is a vegetarian and organic haven. They offer fresh and delicious meals, many of which are gluten-free, vegan, raw, or sugar-free as well. The setting is covered alfresco and you are once again surrounded by stunning tropical vegetation. This is an up-and-coming venue locally, particularly following their recent exposure in The New York Times! Elsewhere in Santa Teresa, there are over 90 restaurants so it’s somewhat a foodie’s paradise!

Pool & Activities
The crystal clear pool is surrounded by stunning tropical gardens; take your seat on one of the comfortable loungers, listen to the gentle waterfalls and let the relaxation commence. The Jungle Yoga Deck can be found upstairs from the restaurant and is where you’ll find the twice-daily yoga classes and many more. You take part in hula hoop, belly dancing as well as meditation classes.

It’s an easy stroll into the town of Santa Teresa which has a relaxed, surf vibe about it despite its ultra-hip image. Browse the art galleries, buy something for dinner at fisherman’s village, and catch some fabulous live music by night. Trip Advisor calls it one of the top 10 beach destinations in Central and South America and it’s easy to see why it’s earned this reputation – just get here before the crowds do! Costa Rica is also a surfer’s dream and a top surfing spot can be found just a 2-minute walk from the hotel, and there’s no excuse if you’re not experienced; the hotel can arrange lessons for you! There’s even a surfer’s package available if the focus of your holiday is to surf. A range of other activities, both the adventurous (think a canopy zip line tour or quad biking) and the more sedate (a rejuvenating massage or a calming kayaking tour) can all be arranged via the hotel.
