For a touch of luxury in a calm, serene haven near to all the major sites, Serenissima Boutique Hotel in Crete is a great bet. Intimate, relaxed and contemporary, the hotel is a great place to chill out and get wrapped up in a holiday bubble; then step outside and you’re right in the centre of the charming Old City of Chania in Crete. One of those great destinations that is less than a 4 hour flight from London, but yet you find yourself in another world. Also being one of the southerly most Greek isles, Crete is a great option for that slightly out of season sunshine.

Hotel
The elegant five-star Serenissima Boutique Hotel is a converted 16th century Venetian manor, situated just steps away from the Venetian harbour in Chania. There is an indoor and outdoor restaurant, wine bar and a fabulous, unique fully restored Ottoman bath (Hammam)! The décor is classic but with modern touches; clean and uncluttered. There is a romantic feel about the place; with exposed brick, sweeping archways, rustic beams and wrought iron banisters. The lovely Cretan staff really set this hotel apart. They are outstanding, friendly and knowledgeable about the local area but it’s the little extra touches which really stand out.

Rooms
The 7 rooms and suites are all unique though all feature 4 layer king-sized beds (with an eco mattress and feather top) and are en-suite. Room facilities include: a pillow menu, satellite flat screen smart TV, Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, mini bar and refrigerator, safe, complimentary coffee & tea and twice daily housekeeping. Plus, those extra comforts; Clarins bathroom products, Egyptian cotton towels, bathrobes and slippers. Although, not the largest of their suites, I would personally recommend the Superior Suite with Terrace as it offers a divine view of the mountains from the terrace; just the spot for relaxing after a busy day exploring.

Restaurants & Bars
Serenissima Restaurant prides itself on offering a rather unique dining experience; of course the Mediterranean cuisine is yummy, but it’s the creativity, presentation and general flair that reign supreme here. The wine list is extensive and varied; ask your waiter for their suggestions and they will ensure it perfectly complements your meal. Indoor seating is made extra comfortable with leather chairs that you sink right into, however it’s the tables in the gorgeous alleyway of the old harbour that take my fancy. There’s also a veranda so you are really spoilt for choice when choosing where to sit!

Activities
Chania is the second largest city in Crete, its picturesque streets are fabulous to wander; with shops, restaurants, cafes galore, plus the Old Harbour and Marina area. The city comes alive at night and there are plenty of options for dining out. Crete is renowned for its stunning beaches and there’s really too many to list, but a good starting point would be Elafonissi Beach with its crystal-clear turquoise water, ever-fascinating red and white sand, shallow waters and beautiful exotic flowers. For an archaeological fix, the Knossos Minoan Palace is truly iconic. Another major attraction in Crete is the Samaria Gorge; a beautiful national park with wild flowers and a rare species of wild goat! The hotel can arrange boat trips, snorkelling, scuba diving, water sports and other excursions. For a great little gem with a relaxed, luxurious vibe you really can’t go wrong with Serenissima Boutique Hotel, there really is nowhere better to return to after a busy day exploring the beautiful island of Crete.
