The stunning Palace at Osowa Sien is synonymous with rest, relaxation, and romance. Whether it’s the whimsical stucco dark timber castle tower dominating the landscape, or the smell of fresh flowers wafting through the 300 year old English style garden, or the many events held their every year, there’s always a good reason to visit Osowa Sien.
Late summer and early autumn are a lovely time to stay because this is the warmest part of Poland, which means, the trees are in full bloom or in the midst of changing colour and the lake and forest (which lie minutes away) are a pleasure to enjoy. Back at the palace, basking in the sun while sipping rose on the patio is often a great way to spend the afternoon during this season too!
The small village of Osowa Sien boasts a colourful 700 year history full of passion, intrigue, and even despair, so much so that it has inspired several authors to tell its tales. However, to the uninformed traveller, Osowa Sien is but a tiny dot that disappears from the rear view mirror in the blink of an eye.
Just 3km from the palace lie the battle grounds of the Great Northern War between the forces of Peter Alexeyevich of Russia and Augustus II of Saxony-Poland-Lithuania; minutes from here lies the previously protected border between wartime Germany and occupied Poland (the guard house for which still stands today). Head closer towards Wschowa and the arrival platform where the WWII refugee sisters Halina and Theresa stepped off the train from Warsaw as depicted in the novel Das Dienerzimmer comes into view. Destined to lead a life of forced labour, they were smuggled into the castle’s servant quarters! There is so much more to the rich tapestry of history that this area and palace offers and because of this the rooms at the palace have been named after the assortment of novels that it features in.
The suites themselves feature broad wooden plank covered floors, heated bathroom tiles, kitchenette, and comfortable living room. Every morning, breakfast is served in the castle’s parlour with windows overlooking the treed lawn. For anticipated lazy days, guests can opt to spoil themselves with breakfast baskets ordered in advance and delivered to the bedroom door. Kitchenettes contain a coffee and tea larder, tableware, and refrigerator; while a large flat screen smart TVs hangs in full view of plush sofas in the living rooms, an ideal place to relax. The generously sized bathrooms feature exposed beams and heated Spanish marble floors too.
The winner and their guests will be staying in either a Deluxe 30 m² Suite complete with bedroom, ensuite bathroom, living area with Smart TV and kitchenette with windows facing the farm fields, gardens and beyond. If there are 3 or 4 guests the winner will be staying in a Two Storey Suite, the main floor of which is home to the plush living room, kitchenette, daybed nestled between the wooden beams and an ensuite bathroom with an oversized shower and separate soaking tub. The top floor reveals a spacious bedroom with both a double bed and additional settee with a full size mattress suitable for daydreaming and sleeping upon.
Please note: if you intend to bring a baby or your dog, the team will need to know in advance, so they can approve things, and set up a crib (no extra charge though, it’s on the house).
