Trout Point Lodge is a true wilderness retreat, situated in Nova Scotia, at the heart of the UNESCO SW Nova Scotia Biosphere Reserve and a picturesque 45 minute drive from Yarmouth Harbour. This luxury eco-lodge is surrounded by nature and wildlife, tucked away in a pine and spruce forest on the banks of the Tusket River, next to the Tobeatic Wilderness area. It’s not uncommon to see black bear, turtles, flying squirrels, grouse, deer, beaver, owls, eagles and even moose from the lodge!
A member of Small Luxury Hotels, and the world’s first Starlight Hotel, the lodge is every bit as stunning as its surroundings. Built to resemble the classic National Park lodges, it’s an intimate and ultra luxurious property with exceptional cuisine and a wonderful, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It has been talked about in the New York Times, Forbes, National Geographic and Time Magazine amongst many others.
The Lodge and grounds cover 100 acres and as night time light pollution is minimal, it’s the perfect place to enjoy sensational stargazing, plus guests can also enjoy watching the abundance of fireflies dancing in the moonlight too! The lodge has a star gazing platform where they organise special tours with an astronomer and powerful telescopes. If you are there on a clear night, the sky will be unforgettable!
The main lodge features hand cut stone fire places housing wood burning stoves, designed with eco-friendliness in mind, and exudes warmth, hospitality and peace and quiet. The lodge is surrounded by beautiful forest land with walking paths and scenic boardwalks along the river banks. From here you can go canoeing, kayaking or swimming. The water here is perfect for kayaking, and warm enough for swimming (late May through to early September). After a day of activity, you can relax in the riverside wood fired hot tub and barrel sauna.
Dining at the lodge is cosy and romantic with delicious, delicate gourmet delights. Herbs and vegetables are grown in the on site garden and foraged from nearby woods, while other vegetables, seafood and meats are sourced from premium local farmers, ensuring produce is always exceptional in terms of freshness and quality. Dishes showcase local seafood, plants, mushrooms and herbs, as well as homemade cheeses and breads.
All twelve rooms incorporate handmade furniture, with beds made of logs and some feature wood-burning fireplaces or stoves for warmth (and no televisions). The rooms have a rustic feel with all the modern luxuries you would expect of a Small Luxury Hotel.
The winner and their guest will be staying in a top floor Treehouse Junior Suite which faces the Tusket River and Tobeatic Wilderness, some of which enjoy half cathedral ceilings with lots of windows above the log walls, including windows in the ensuite bathrooms. The suite will benefit from 100% natural colour wool carpeting (with eco friendly all natural padding), a beautiful pre war natural dye Afghani carpet, a Jotul wood stove, original V. Cottreau furniture including queen bed and a desk, as well as a comfortable love seat. The private bathroom will have high fired Italian tile, artwork, pedestal sink, and 5′, extra deep bath tubs.
Please note: all bookings are subject to the Trout Point Lodge Reservation Policy which can be read in full here: troutpoint.com/policies.html and the property requires a credit card to secure the booking but will only charge upon check out.
