In the cooler months the weather at the hotel is still beautiful and there are open wood fireplaces everywhere, even on the verandah, so on a rainy winters day you can sit and read with a glass of red wine or hot chocolate next to a crackling fire overlooking the grassy paddocks beyond. Children have lots to do: they can entertain themselves in the playroom, watch movies; play all sorts of games; ride bikes; go fishing in the dam; or even help the Chef bake a cake or prepare their dinner! If you wish to venture beyond the hotel, Birds of Eden, Monkeyland, Tenikwa Big Cat sanctuary and Elephant Sanctuary literally lie 10 minutes from the Kurland gates. Alternatively, visit The Crags, go wine tasting, enjoy a horse riding trail with a picnic or take lunch at one of the neighbouring estates. As a bonus, out of peak season there are no queues in restaurants and no reservations are required.

The winner and their guest will be staying in one of the 4 Superior Suites which are opulently furnished and are exquisite in every respect. Two of the 75m² Suites are located at a distance from the main homestead and pool, which makes them particularly private and peaceful. Bathrooms open onto private courtyards, which have calming water features, whilst the main suites flow into large pool terraces. An upstairs ‘loft’ room is ensuite and boasts satellite TV and telephone and can sleep 2, 3 or 4 persons – ideal for family members or an au pair. Tucked away from the main homestead, the other two 72m² Superior Suites provide a perfect romantic haven. The separate entrance hall leads into the main Suite which is luxuriously furnished and has a king-size bed, fireplace and comfortable seating area. The terrace and bathroom have stunning panoramic vistas of the estate. Large terraces have a private swimming pool and relaxation area with ‘courtesy blinds’ that afford complete privacy. This is also the ideal venue for an alfresco brunch or romantic dinner. Amenities include: a terrace with private plunge pool, mini bar, ceiling fans, open wood-burning fireplaces, flatscreen TV and complimentary wifi.
