For a touch of British elegance and sophistication, the next time you are in London, check into the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill. You’ll find the hotel in the heart of Marylebone, just behind Selfridges store on Oxford Street, and you’re bound to adore their restaurant, their club lounge, their spacious guest rooms, and, somewhat surprisingly, their almost private park!
Location
The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill is tucked on the gorgeous Portman Square just off Oxford Street next to Hyde Park.
It’s easy to find due to its central location, and since it overlooks a green, leafy square that serves as a roundabout for traffic, you can easily pull up out front and unload your luggage. There is a car park under the hotel, so the hotel valet will look after your car for a fee should you wish to drive there.
If you arrive by public transport, you are less than 5 minutes on foot from Marble Arch London Underground station, with Bond Street station a very slightly longer stroll – although that stroll does allow you to take in a little more of Oxford Street and is nearer the shops on Bond Street too.

Carry on past Bond Street station and you’ll come across the popular Regent Street, or wander in the other direction through Hyde Park with its wonderful lake, and into Mayfair with its designer boutiques. A nice stroll is the walk over to Oxford Circus, then down Regent Street to Picadilly Circus, and then back up through Green Park and past Buckingham Palace.
You aren’t far from any of the other major hotels here. The Grosvenor House, Mandarin Oriental, InterContinental, and Four Seasons are only a 15-20-minute walk away, if you know which way you’re going. London Heathrow Airport is 27km away, and London City Airport is 18km from the hotel.

Style & Character
As the name suggests, this hotel was inspired by Winston Churchill and the hotel respectfully honours the great British icon. The hotel feels quintessentially British; if you weren’t aware of the connection, you could visit and be none the wiser.
Once you are aware, the nods to his legacy are everywhere, often subtle and playful, and are really lovely to discover. The hotel’s interiors feature original photographs, artworks, and love letters between Churchill and his wife, Clementine, providing intimate glimpses into their relationship. Notably, the Churchill Residential Suite houses a curated art collection, including Churchill’s own painting “A Day at Chartwell” and Poppies in a White Jug by James Fullerton. These pieces, curated in collaboration with Thompson’s Gallery, complement the suite’s tribute to Churchill’s artistic endeavors.

Designed by Spinocchia Freund, the Churchill Bar & Terrace exudes 1930s Art Deco elegance, reflecting the era during which Churchill rose to prominence. The bar features bookshelves curated by Daunt Books, showcasing literature that mirrors the interests of young Churchill and Clementine. A standout feature is Lawrence Holofcener’s life-size bronze sculpture of Churchill on the terrace, where staff place a fresh rose in the lapel daily, emulating Clementine’s gesture.
The hotel’s design incorporates bespoke herringbone patterns, button detailing, and signature furniture pieces, echoing Churchill’s appreciation for quality craftsmanship and British tailoring. These elements are evident throughout the guestrooms, suites, and public areas, reinforcing the hotel’s dedication to honoring its namesake’s legacy.
The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill has a grandeur to match the icon it so admires, with a vast lobby and entrance hall, marble floors, wide corridors, and classic, formal décor. The Churchill nods include paintings, sculptures, books, and letters; some of the cuter items are little knitted cat toys, which the children loved spotting.

Service & Facilities
Usually, when discussing hotel facilities, our favourite feature will be the spa, swimming pool, or maybe a terrace, but with the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, it’s definitely their private park.
From the hotel’s enviable location on Portman Square, guests have access, along with the residences of the Square, to the large private garden at its heart. There are no other hotels on the Square that also have this private access. My favourite thing is that you access the park by using your room key on the gate!

Not only is it a beautiful space to relax, but there are tennis courts that you can book at the concierge, a children’s play park, and lots of beautiful areas to sit and relax and enjoy your own private Notting Hill moment! When we were there, the tulips were in full bloom and the garden was a riot of colour, ideal for escaping the fabulous pace of London just for a moment.

As well as the park, the hotel has a large gym with a full range of machines, including Peloton bikes. There’s also a wellness area with a sauna, steam room, and treatment rooms, where you can enjoy a little pampering.

The club lounges, there are two, a family lounge and a business lounge, are also excellent and well worth the room upgrade to take full advantage of. Another unique feature of the hotel is its own private mini shop where you can buy Churchill memorabilia and mementos to celebrate the legend and remind you of your time at the hotel.

The service at the Hyatt Regency Churchill was warm, friendly, and very attentive. The concierge desk was excellent, and they were very happy to furnish you with local tips, as well as help you book your tennis court.

Rooms
The hotel features 440 luxurious rooms, including 50 suites. The rooms are spacious and all have a desk and all the usual amenities you would expect; the heavily scented Molton Brown bath amenities are especially popular.

There is a Smeg coffee maker and capsules, along with a kettle and bottled water.

It’s worth selecting a room with a garden view overlooking the leafy square in front of the hotel. These rooms gaze upon Portman Square and the back of the Selfridges department store.

This pretty old square offers trees and grass, which makes a lovely backdrop. Busy roads surround this square, but don’t worry, the hotel is triple-glazed, so road noise is not a problem here.

The other rooms have a more urban view, so the trees provide a natural and green view in the city center.

If you book a Regency Club room, you will get access to the two adjacent club lounges, which are really rather good. Both have Mary Poppins views of rooftops and look out over the back of the hotel. There is an adults-only lounge and a family lounge, both offering the same food and drink.

The breakfast here is good and filling, with hot egg options served to your table; nibbles are available throughout the day, and in the evening, the buffet is usually something like a large bowl of salmon with salads and canapes. More than enough to fill you up, although there can sometimes be an “elbows out” style rush to the buffet when the fish or meat is delivered, as, at least when we stayed, it was not replenished.

What Is The Best Club Or Executive Lounge In London?
What is the best club or executive lounge in the top luxury hotels across London? The club lounge at the InterContinental London has the best club lounge for views (pictured above), and the Langham hosts the best club lounge for food in London. Book a standard room at the InterContinental London Park Lane via our luxury travel concierge (rates tend to range from £400 GBP to £600 GBP depending on the day and the season), and you will get a guaranteed room upgrade and Club Lounge access free. This has got to be one of the best hotel deals in London!
The grandest of the suites is the stunning four-bedroom Churchill Residential Suite, but some of the one-bedroom suites are really impressive too. Several have balconies, and the ones overlooking the lush gardens are just dreamy and peaceful for the centre of such a vibrant city.

Several of the rooms and suites can connect with a twin room, allowing a family of four or even five to utilise two rooms, which is helpful for traveling groups or families.

Conversely, if you are travelling as a couple, we would recommend requesting a room without an adjoining door to maximize peace and quiet.

Food & Drink
The bar at the Regency Churchill is special. With private street access or access from within the hotel, it’s a beautiful, glamorous space that feels very cosy and intimate and has a stylish art deco vibe.

The Churchill references here are very much dedicated to the man and his love, Clementine. Framed original love letters and other romantic mementos line the walls and fill the shelves. The fireplace is lit regardless of whether it is required for warmth, the lighting is soft, and the cocktails are delectable.

There’s also an equally romantic year-round outdoor, heated terrace; currently dressed for the winter season with pine cones and fairy lights, the Winston Churchill statue even dons a scarf!

We loved the main restaurant, Montague Kitchen. It has a really nice feeling of space, and the style of the rest of the hotel was reflected here: comfortable seating, nice lighting, and all the right things were in play. The restaurant has a large bar at one end, with the cake trolley beside it and a fabulous open kitchen at the other end.

Interestingly one thing that stood out was the acoustics, they meant that though we had people at some of the tables next to us, they didn’t feel near and we really couldn’t hear them at all and yet we could all hear each other, acoustics rarely work well in restaurants and this was noticeable here.

I’d recommend sharing a selection of small dishes from the Nibble section on their menu. The Mac and Cheese Croquettes were exquisite, as was the Cobble Lane Cured Charcuterie board.

The cuisine here is modern and seasonal British, and the choice for main courses was wide, with a choice of steaks, the usual pub classics, and more unusual dishes such as King Tiger Prawns and Whole Dover Sole.

Vegetarians are well catered for too, with a Caesar Salad menu and BBQ Tofu Belly. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, and we all left thoroughly satisfied! I definitely recommend the signature dessert, their Tiramisu Experience, for which they wheel along a trolley and prepare it at the table in front of you. It’s definitely enough for two to share, or in our case, four to tuck into! They even let my daughter get her hands on it in the making process, too!
Really fun and an extra treat for dinner. The service here was wonderful, they were really friendly and very attentive, and nothing was too much trouble.

Conclusion
The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill offers not only a very central city location in London but excellent facilities with its club lounges and that gorgeous park, plus a delectable contemporary dining experience and a chic cocktail bar. The hotel sensitively but enthusiastically embraces the celebration of Winston Churchill, and it gives the hotel an unusual and memorable way to stand out from the crowd.
