Book A Hotel

If you book a Regency Club room at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, you will get access to the two adjacent executive club lounges, which are really rather good. Both have Mary Poppins views of rooftops and look out over the back of the hotel. There is an adults-only lounge and a family lounge, both offering the same food and drink.

Location

The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill is tucked on the gorgeous Portman Square just off Oxford Street next to Hyde Park.

It’s easy to find due to its central location, and since it overlooks a green, leafy square that serves as a roundabout for traffic, you can easily pull up out front and unload your luggage. A car park is located under the hotel, so the valet will look after your car for a fee should you wish to drive there.

If you arrive by public transport, you are less than 5 minutes on foot from Marble Arch London Underground station, with Bond Street station a very slightly longer stroll – although that stroll does allow you to take in a little more of Oxford Street and is nearer the shops on Bond Street too.

Reviews

For a touch of British elegance and sophistication, the next time you are in London, check into the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill. You’ll find the hotel in the heart of Marylebone, just behind Selfridges store on Oxford Street, and you're bound to adore their restaurant, their club lounge, their spacious guest rooms, and, somewhat surprisingly, their almost private park! The club lounge is located more or less at the top of the hotel, on the hotel’s 8th floor. You reach it by taking one of the lifts in the foyer and can actually check in on the club floor at one of the exclusive check-in desks that sit in front of and outside the two club lounges.

The hotel is primarily designed around the ground floor with restaurants and bars on the ground floor, so the lounge being on the 8th floor makes it feel very exclusive, and the lounge is open until late, 7 days a week, so it is a huge asset at this Hyatt Regency hotel.

Style & Character

Each club lounge at the Hyatt Churchill is a rectangular room, one for adults and one for families. Each has windows on one side and an inset buffet area on the other. The seating is largely lounging seats with small tables, ideal for relaxing with a paper or a computer, but on the small side for dining around at breakfast and in the evenings.

The decor is turquoise and brown and very pleasing, and the ambiance in the adults-only lounge is very peaceful. The family lounge can be fairly busy and rather hectic with children occasionally getting the urge to run about, so bear this in mind when you choose which room to spend your time in.

Being on the 8th floor, the views are over rooftops and urban areas. They aren’t particularly noteworthy, although it’s nice to have natural light in the lounge, something missing from the club lounge at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House and the Sheraton Grand club lounge, which also have great lounges but lack natural light.

Food & Drink

The breakfast here is good and filling, with hot egg options served to your table; nibbles are available throughout the day, and there is an evening meal which is fairly filling.

The breakfast in the lounge starts at around 8:00 am and is hectic. The tables are quite small, so loading up on a decent meal can be challenging and involve lots of getting up and back down from the buffet area.

The breakfast buffet spread includes basic eggs and a selection of breads, pastries, yogurt, cold cuts, cheeses, smoked salmon, cereals, fruit, coffees, and juice. It errs towards the continental option as opposed to full English but there is plenty to choose from.

This is a decent but limited breakfast selection when compared to the hotel’s main restaurant breakfast. We reccomend taking breakfast in the Montagu restaurant just off the lobby level as the preferred option if you can. If you are a Hyatt Globalist, this downstairs breakfast should be complimentary. If you book your stay via our luxury travel concierge, this breakfast will also be complimentary. This Montagu restaurant breakfast includes an à la carte menu of eggs any which way you like, a Full English breakfast, and loads of other options.

The buffet in the evening is usually something like a large bowl of salmon with salads and canapes. This is served from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. There is more than enough to fill you up, although there can sometimes be an “elbows out” style rush to the buffet when the fish or meat is delivered, as, at least when we stayed, it was not replenished.

There are also plenty of wines and beers available in the evening if you are in the market for an alcoholic drink. These are all included with no extra charge. The wines are set up in a glass bucket, and there are spirits set up next to the wines with Bacardi, Gin, Whisky, etc.

The evening offering cake display is a reason to book this hotel and this club lounge in itself. There are usually three fantastic, freshly baked cakes on offer. When we stayed, there was a chocolate cake with milk chocolate icing, a spice cake, a flan-type flat chocolate cake, and focaccia and cheeses. They sometimes offer a coffee cake too. There are also glass jars of cookies and nuts, fridges full of soft drinks and a hot drinks machine available throughout the day. These cakes are huge, delicious, and large enough that there always seemed to be a slice available, even after the hordes had landed in the lounge.

There are also glass jars of cookies and nuts, fridges full of soft drinks, and a hot drinks machine available throughout the day. Plus this club lounge stays open until 11:00 pm, so you can help yourself with snacks like cookies and hot drinks: coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and non-alcoholic drinks into the evening.

Conclusion

This Hyatt club lounge is not the best club lounge in London. We think the best executive club lounges are the Langham club lounge for food and classy historic setting, and the InterContinental London club lounge for amazing views, a hugely airy setting, and a modern look (also with decent food, although it’s not as the Langham club lounge).

However, it is one of the best Hyatt club lounges that we have experienced, and the adults-only lounge and family lounge differentiation means that you can enjoy a peaceful or lively atmosphere, depending on which you are looking for.

The location of the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill in London is brilliant, and the hotel ticks all the boxes for a great club lounge, decent rooms, a good gym, a great location, and lots of history, so it is definitely worth considering on your next trip to London.
